Black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa L.) by-product from filter tea factory underwent subcritical water extraction (SWE) in order to recover polyphenolics and determine its antioxidant potential. In the current study Box-Behnken design was applied for optimization. Independent variables used in experimental design were temperature (T, 120-200 °C), extraction time (t, 15-35 min) and hydrochloride concentration (c, 0-1.5%). Experimental results were fitted to a second-order polynomial model where multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance were used to determine fitness of the model and optimal conditions. The optimized SWE conditions for maximum responses of total phenols (TP), total flavonoids (TF) and monomeric anthocyanins (MA) contents, and minimum response of IC50 were temperature of 120.4 °C, extraction time of 15.2 min and absence of acidifier. The predicted values of TP, TF, MA and IC50 at these conditions were: 32.8863 mg GAE/g, 23.5164 mg CE/g, 0.5124 mg C3G/g and 0.0055 mg/mL, respectively.

Herbal dust, a waste byproduct from filter-tea production, was annealed to form ash that can be incorporated into natural rubber as an eco-friendly filler. Three types of herbal dust ash (HDA), green tea, hibiscus, and lemon balm, were added at two different contents, 2.5 and 5 phr, into the rubber compound, while the content of carbon black, as a filler, was maintained at 50 phr in all samples.

Background: Coffee and tea are widely consumed beverages, but their long-term effects on cognitive function and aging remain largely unexplored. Lifestyle interventions, particularly dietary habits, offer promising strategies for enhancing cognitive performance and preventing cognitive decline.
Methods: This study utilized data from the UK Biobank cohort ( = 12,025) to examine the associations between filtered coffee, green tea, and standard tea consumption and neural network functional connectivity across seven resting-state networks.

The bioactive components of chrysanthemum tea are an essential indicator in evaluating its nutritive and commercial values. Combining hyperspectral imaging (HSI) with key wavelength selection and pattern recognition methods, this study developed a novel approach to estimating the content of bioactive components in chrysanthemums, including the total flavonoids (TFs) and chlorogenic acids (TCAs). To determine the informative wavelengths of hyperspectral images, we introduced a variable similarity regularization term into particle swarm optimization (denoted as VSPSO), which can focus on improving the combinatorial performance of key wavelengths and filtering out the features with higher collinearity simultaneously.

Food freshness monitoring and volatile amine detection are key to food safety. In this study, we demonstrated the applicability of mixed-valence rhenium oxide quantum dots (MV-ReOQDs), synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of α-cyclodextrin and rhenium ion precursors, in triethylamine (TEA) sensing. Spectroscopic correlation techniques showed that the developed MV-ReOQDs possessed mixed-valent rhenium, α-cyclodextrin as capped ligand, partially carbonized surface, and amorphous phase structure.

Natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) were employed for the extraction of bilberry and green tea leaves. This study explored the incorporation of these NaDES extracts into various carrier systems: hydrogels, emulsions, and emulgels stabilized with hydroxyethyl cellulose or xanthan gum. The results demonstrated that, when combined with synthetic UV filters, the NaDES extracts significantly enhanced the SPF and improved the antioxidant properties of the formulation.
