Increased industrial offshore activities in northern waters raise the question of impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on key Arctic marine species. One of these is the ecologically important polar cod (Boreogadus saida), which is the primary food source for Arctic marine mammals and seabirds. In the present work, we have conducted the first comprehensive proteomics study with this species by exploring the effects of dietary PAH exposure on the hepatic proteome, using benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) as a PAH model-compound.

In order to solve the problem of fixed ambiguity and decreased accuracy in GNSS displacement monitoring of the offshore floating platforms, an attitude correction algorithm based on the fusion of a multi-antenna GNSS and an accelerometer was proposed using the Kalman filtering method. The algorithm was validated on a physical simulation platform and a real offshore floating platform. The results indicate that this fusion method effectively compensates for the loss of high-frequency displacement information caused by low GNSS sampling rates, improves situations in which the fusion effect deteriorates due to attitude changes, and enhances the accuracy of GNSS and accelerometer fusion monitoring through offshore buoy testing.

Article Synopsis
  • Sentiment analysis helps gauge public opinions and trends but faces challenges like linguistic diversity and data scarcity.
  • The TRABSA model combines advanced techniques like transformers and BiLSTM to improve sentiment classification by effectively understanding complex language from a large tweet dataset.
  • This research enhances accuracy by augmenting data diversity and experimenting with various word-embedding methods, ultimately refining sentiment labeling approaches for better model performance.

Healthcare Resource Utilization and Costs Associated With Eosinophilic Esophagitis Among Commercially Insured Patients in the United States.

Am J Gastroenterol

November 2024

Worldwide Health Economics and Outcomes Research Unit, Bristol Myers Squibb, Princeton, New Jersey, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and costs related to eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in the U.S. from 2008 to 2020.
  • - An analysis of claims data revealed that EoE patients had significantly higher monthly healthcare visits and costs compared to matched controls, especially in inpatient and emergency department settings.
  • - The findings highlight the economic impact of EoE and suggest a need for more efficient treatments to improve patient outcomes.

Sea level monitoring is an essential foundational project for studying global climate change and the rise in sea levels. Satellite radar altimeters, which can sometimes provide inaccurate sea surface height data near the coast, are affected by both the instrument itself and geophysical factors. Buoys equipped with GNSS receivers offer a relatively flexible deployment at sea, allowing for long-term, high-precision measurements of sea surface heights.
