Microbiome studies generate multivariate compositional responses, such as taxa counts, which are strictly non-negative, bounded, residing within a simplex, and subject to unit-sum constraint. In presence of covariates (which can be moderate to high dimensional), they are popularly modeled via the Dirichlet-Multinomial (D-M) regression framework. In this paper, we consider a Bayesian approach for estimation and inference under a D-M compositional framework, and present a comparative evaluation of some state-of-the-art continuous shrinkage priors for efficient variable selection to identify the most significant associations between available covariates, and taxonomic abundance.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a common mental health disorder with a lifetime prevalence of 20.6% among United States (US) adults. Multiple US surveys have shown a consistently higher burden of mental health struggles among lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and questioning (LGBTQ+) adults compared to non-LGBTQ+ adults.

Background: When COVID-19 stay-at-home orders were instituted, there were concerns that isolation may lead to increases in domestic violence (DV). Reports of increased rates of DV during the stay-at-home period have been suggestive of this but inconsistent across different locations. We sought to complement the existing studies by characterizing changes in DV trends in US cities of Chicago, Los Angeles (LA), New York City (NYC), Philadelphia, and Phoenix using police call volume data from January 1st, 2018, through Dec 31st, 2020.

Background: Among the foreign-born in the United States (US) dietary acculturation and eating out may increase obesity risk. Using the 2004 (N = 1952) and 2013/14 (N = 1481) New York City (NYC) Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, we compared for the foreign-born and US-born by survey year: 1) odds of obesity; 2) association between eating out and obesity and 3) effect of age at arrival and duration of residence among the foreign-born. Weighted logistic regression estimated odds of obesity.
