A non-luminescent 3d-4f heterobimetallic CuEu organic framework (NBU-8) was designedly synthesized with Cu2+ ions as a fluorescence quencher. NBU-8 as a sensor realized selective light recovery with a "turn-on" luminescence response toward N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) even in the presence of other amide molecules.

Thorium, a predominant actinide in the Earth's crust, presents significant environmental and health risks due to its radioactive nature. These risks are particularly pronounced during the mining and processing of monazite for rare earth elements (REEs), which contain substantial thorium concentrations. Current instrumental analysis methods for thorium, offer high accuracy but require laborious sample preparations and expensive instruments, making them unsuitable for on-site analysis.

A fish-bone-shaped and thermochemically stable 2D metal-organic framework (MOF) with multimodal active center-decked pore-wall is devised. Redox-active [Co(COO)] node and thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole functionalization benefit this mixed-ligand MOF exhibiting electrochemical water oxidation with 375 mV overpotential at 10 mA cm current density and 78 mV per dec Tafel slope in alkaline medium. Pair of oppositely oriented carboxylic acids aids postmetalation with transition metal ions to engineer heterobimetallic materials.

Article Synopsis
  • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have great potential for various applications due to their versatile physical and chemical properties.
  • Traditional methods for synthesizing MOFs often involve harsh conditions that can degrade sensitive materials, such as Pd(ii), making it challenging to incorporate this metal into MOFs effectively.
  • The authors present a new mechanochemical approach that allows for the integration of Pd(ii)-based clusters into MOFs without reducing Pd(ii), highlighting benefits like shorter reaction times, minimal solvent use, and improved control over the synthesis process.

A three-dimensional heterobimetallic porous structure with the formula {[YTbL(OH)(HO) (DMF)] ·1.5HO·DMF} (L = 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoate) () has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), electrophoretic mobility, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The structure presents two metal environments: a bioaugmented isosceles wedge (mm2) MO and a tricapped trigonal prism (-6m2) MNO.

A Broadened Class of Donor-Acceptor Stacked Macrometallacyclic Adducts of Different Coinage Metals.

A yet-outstanding supramolecular chemistry challenge is isolation of novel varieties of stacked complexes with finely-tuned donor-acceptor bonding and optoelectronic properties, as herein reported for binary adducts comprising two different cyclic trinuclear complexes (CTC@CTC'). Most previous attempts focused only on 1-2 factors among metal/ligand/substituent combinations, resulting in heterobimetallic complexes. Instead, here we show that, when all 3 factors are carefully considered, a broadened variety of CTC@CTC' stacked pairs with intuitively-enhanced intertrimer coordinate-covalent bonding strength and ligand-ligand/metal-ligand dispersion are attained (d 2.
