Guidelines for the prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are updated periodically while new science is continuously developed. Advanced practice registered nurses implement clinical decisions based on current guidelines and evidence. This article provides recent updates on managing STIs.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide, with HPV and HPV-related diseases representing a substantial disease burden. HPV vaccination has reduced HPV infections and HPV-related diseases; however, there is growing evidence of delayed or refused vaccination due to a lack of trust in vaccines. Understanding the factors that impact vaccine uptake will allow the development and implementation of successful vaccination programmes.

Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is curriculum-based teaching and learning of various dimensions of sexuality. By equipping young people with accurate information on sexual and reproductive health, CSE promotes healthier populations and fosters a more informed workforce, contributing positively to national economies. Although known to have many benefits, CSE is not universally accepted or implemented.
