Aims: To explore the relationship between weight loss and insulin sensitivity in response to tirzepatide or semaglutide.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a post hoc exploratory analysis of a 28-week, double-blind, randomized trial in people with type 2 diabetes treated with metformin, randomized to tirzepatide 15 mg, semaglutide 1 mg or placebo. We evaluated the relationship between change in body weight and change in insulin sensitivity determined from hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp (M value), or from mixed-meal tolerance testing (Matsuda index).

Background: Because tertiary centres are generally situated at urban sites, it is unclear whether patients in rural areas have the same access to surgical services that patients in urban areas do. We sought to map the North American evidence landscape of how rurality affects access to medically indicated surgeries and identify system-, patient-, and provider-level barriers that preclude urban-comparable care.

Methods: We carried out a systematic search adhering to PRISMA for Scoping Reviews methodology across PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science, encompassing literature from the last 26 years (January 2023).

Heat-Stable Insulins: Any Progress?

J Diabetes Sci Technol

December 2024

Science Consulting in Diabetes GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany.

Millions of people with diabetes have no or only limited access to electricity that limits their ability to store insulin according to the recommendations of the insulin manufacturer in general. At the same time, environmental temperatures are increasing in many countries which have a negative impact on the glucose-lowering effect of insulin not stored adequately. Therefore, the availability of heat-stable insulin formulations that do not require constant cooling would be of help for many patients; however, despite this clinical need, apparently not many are in clinical development.
