In this work, an atomic layer deposited (ALD) AlO ultrathin layer was introduced to passivate the ZnO-nanoparticle (NP) buffer layer of inverted polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on P3HT:PCBM. The surface morphology of the ZnO-NP/AlO interface was systematically analyzed by using a variety of tools, in particular transmission electron microscopy (TEM), evidencing a conformal ALD-AlO deposition. The thickness of the AlO layers was optimized at the nanoscale to boost electron transport of the ZnO-NP layer, which can be attributed to the suppression of oxygen vacancy defects in ZnO-NPs confirmed by photoluminescence measurement. The optimal inverted PSCs passivated by ALD-AlO exhibited an ∼22% higher power conversion efficiency than the control devices with a pristine ZnO-NP buffer layer. The employment of the ALD-AlO passivation layer with precisely controlled thickness provides a promising approach to develop high efficiency PSCs with novel polymer materials.

Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and post-translationally imported into mitochondria. If the rate of protein synthesis exceeds the capacity of the mitochondrial import machinery, precursor proteins can transiently accumulate in the cytosol. The cytosolic accumulation of mitochondrial precursors jeopardizes cellular protein homeostasis (proteostasis) and can be the cause of diseases.

The aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) are chronically plagued by the inevitable side-reaction and uneven Zn planets stack. Through regulating the water activity and Zn crystal dynamics could effectively relieve those anode/electrolyte interface problems. The (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin (HBCD), characterized by the excluded-volume and mitigating zinc-flux aggregation effect, is chosen as the electrolyte additive to tail the anode/electrolyte interface.

Carbon coating on SiO surface is crucial for enhancing initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and cycling performance in batteries, while also buffering volume expansion. Despite its market prevalence, the effects of the carbon layer's quality and structure on the electrochemical properties of SiO remain underexplored. This study compares carbon layers produced via gas-phase and solid-phase coating methods, introducing an innovative technique that sequentially uses two gases to develop a low-impedance hybrid carbon structure.

InSb is a material of choice for infrared as well as spintronic devices but its integration on large lattice mismatched semi-insulating III-V substrates has so far altered its exceptional properties. Here, we investigate the direct growth of InSb on InP(111)B substrates with molecular beam epitaxial growth. Despite the lack of a thick metamorphic buffer layer for accommodation, we show that quasi-continuous thin films can be achieved using a very high Sb/In flux ratio.

3D printing, as a layer-by-layer manufacturing technique, enables the customization of tissue engineering scaffolds. Surface modification of biomaterials is a beneficial approach to enhance the interaction with living cells and tissues. In this research, a polylactic acid/polyethylene glycol scaffold containing 30 % bredigite nanoparticles (PLA/PEG/B) was fabricated utilizing fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing.
