Purpose: This study aimed to investigate associations of central obesity with sexual maturation and metabolic parameters in Korean girls with precocious puberty.
Methods: This retrospective study evaluated data from 72 girls under 8 years of age with a chief complaint of early breast development. The patients were categorized as central precocious puberty (CPP) subjects or non-CPP subjects based on their gonadotropin-releasing hormone stimulation test results. Visceral fat thickness (VFT) was measured using ultrasonography and defined as the distance from the linea alba to the aorta. Patient anthropometric, metabolic, and hormonal parameters were also evaluated.
Results: Increased VFT was correlated with an earlier onset of thelarche among all study subjects (r=-0.307, P=0.034). Overweight CPP subjects showed higher insulin resistance than normal weight CPP subjects. Insulin resistance was not significantly different between overweight and normal weight non-CPP subjects. VFT was not significantly different between CPP and non-CPP subjects (2.22±0.79 cm vs. 2.74±1.47 cm, P=0.169). However, overweight and obese CPP subjects (body mass index percentile>85%) had lower VFT than non-CPP obese subjects.
Conclusion: Central obesity, defined using ultrasonography-measured VFT, might be associated with early pubertal development in Korean girls. However, VFT was not higher in CPP than non-CPP patients and was not significantly correlated with insulin resistance. Further longitudinal studies with a larger cohort are needed.

Background: Stroke is the leading cause of acquired motor deficiencies in adults. Restoring prehension abilities is challenging for individuals who have not recovered active hand opening capacities after their rehabilitation. Self-triggered functional electrical stimulation applied to finger extensor muscles to restore grasping abilities in daily life is called grasp neuroprosthesis (GNP) and remains poorly accessible to the post-stroke population.

The first workshop on the "latest advances in biomedical applications of octacalcium phosphate (OCP)" was organized as a satellite symposium to the Bioceramics33 conference in Solothurn, Switzerland, in October 2023. The event brought together leading researchers and industry representatives to present and discuss their latest groundbreaking research aimed at developing and commercializing advanced OCP-based biomaterials for bone regeneration. The topics presented by the six invited speakers ranged from a fundamental understanding of the OCP crystal chemistry to advanced processing and characterization methods, functionalization, biomineralization, and commercialization.

Purpose Of Review: The objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive management protocol for the treatment of intracranial pressure (ICP) crises based on the latest evidence.
Recent Findings: The review discusses updated information on various aspects of critical care management in patients experiencing ICP crises, including mechanical ventilation, fluid therapy, hemoglobin targets, and hypertonic saline infusion, the advantages of ICP monitoring, the critical ICP threshold, and bedside neuromonitoring. All aspects of critical care treatment, including hemodynamic and respiratory support and adjustment of ICP reduction therapy, may impact patient outcomes.

Background: Central precocious puberty (CPP) is characterized by the premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, resulting in early onset of sexual development. The incidence of CPP has been rising in recent years, with approximately 90% of cases lacking a clearly identifiable etiology. While an association between precocious puberty and gut microbiota has been observed, the precise causal pathways and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can significantly disrupt autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulation, increasing the risk for secondary complications, hemodynamic instability, and adverse outcome. This retrospective study evaluated windowed time-lagged cross-correlation (WTLCC) matrices for describing cerebral hemodynamics-ANS interactions to predict outcome, enabling identifying high-risk patients who may benefit from enhanced monitoring to prevent complications.
Methods: The first experiment aimed to predict short-term outcome using WTLCC-based convolution neural network models on the Wroclaw University Hospital (WUH) database (P = 31 with 1,079 matrices, P = 16 with 573 matrices).
