Early presentation of undifferentiated pleomorphic cardiac sarcoma.

Radiol Case Rep

October 2024

Cardiac Primary Prevention Research Center, Cardiovascular Diseases Research Institute, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Undifferentiated pleomorphic cardiac sarcomas are extremely rare, highly malignant mesenchymal cardiac neoplasms typically presenting in the sixth decade of life. Here, we have reported a rare case of undifferentiated pleomorphic cardiac sarcoma presenting with dyspnea in a young male. On further evaluations, a large, ill-defined, multilobulated mass was observed in left atrium (LA) with encasement of left circumflex artery, attachment to mitral valve annulus, and invasion through LA wall and pericardium.

Introduction: Mutations in the thyroid hormone receptor alpha (THRA) gene are a rare cause of thyroid hormone resistance, which leads to a pleomorphic phenotypic spectrum. Hormonal profiles are variable and subtle, making laboratory diagnoses challenging. Genetic evaluation can be a helpful tool in diagnosing these cases.

Endobronchial solitary fibrous tumors: An enigma for diagnosis.

Pathol Res Pract

April 2024

Department of Cardia, Thoracic, Vascular Science, and Public Health, University of Padova, Padova 35121, Italy. Electronic address:

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms constituting less than 2% of all soft tissue tumors. They typically originate in the thoracic cavity, mainly in the pleura, but can also occur in other various sites such as lung parenchyma, pericardium, and bronchus. In this study, a 49-year-old non-smoking female with a history of allergies presented to our pulmonary clinic with a chronic cough.

Constrictive Pericarditis: An Update on Noninvasive Multimodal Diagnosis.

J Cardiovasc Echogr

February 2024

Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Cardiology Unit, University of Messina, Messina, Italy.

Constrictive pericarditis (CP) is a rare condition that can affect the pericardium after every pericardial disease process and has been described even after SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccine. In CP, the affected pericardium, usually the inner layer, is noncompliant, constraining the heart to a fixed maximum volume and impairing the diastolic function. This leads to several clinical features, that, however, can be pleomorphic.
