PMsamples were collected in a northern suburb of Nanjing during the winter of 2015. Water soluble ions and carbonaceous substances under different air quality levels were analyzed by an 850 professional IC-type ion chromatograph produced by Metrohm and a Model 2001A carbon analyzer. The results show that the average mass concentration of PM, SO, NO, and NH during heavy pollution days was 4.0, 6.4, 3.1, and 3.9 times higher than on clear days, respectively. Three main secondary ions were all in the form of (NH)SO and NHNO on all days. Two kinds of acid pollution days were mainly affected by the flow source. The proportion of fixed sources on the heavy pollution days was greater than on the light/moderate pollution days. The highest mass concentrations of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were 49.8 μg·m and 10.3 μg·m, respectively. The average concentration of SOC on clear days was the lowest (4.28 μg·m). The proportion of secondary organic carbon (SOC) in the OC on clear days was more than on the other two pollution days (41.14%). Coal combustion and motor vehicle exhaust emissions were the main contributors to carbonaceous substances by abundances of carbonaceous components.

Herbicide paraquat dichloride, a potent redox agent found its way to natural water bodies and influences their health; however, its impact on the reproductive health of fish is potentially less studied and requires clear investigation. This study was conducted to elucidate its effect on the gonadal health of female fish, Channa punctatus over 60 days. The 96-h LC of test herbicide was calculated as 0.

This study reports the isolation and characterization of highly resistant bacterial and microalgal strains from an Egyptian wastewater treatment station to cyanide-containing compounds. The bacterial strain was identified as Bacillus licheniformis by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The isolate removed up to 1 g L potassium cyanide, 3 g L benzonitrile, and 1 g L sodium salicylate when incubated as 10% v/v in MSM at 30 ℃.

In recent years, it has become widely acknowledged that heavy metals are often present in oil-contaminated sites. This study utilized three specific types of microorganisms with different functions to construct a composite bacterial consortium for treating lubricant-Cr(VI) composite pollutants. The selected strains were Lysinbacillus fusiformis and Bacillus tropicus.

The indispensability of biometals nickel, copper, and selenium in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and other industrial applications, coupled with their release from mining processes, has made them potent environmental contaminants, especially when present in aquatic ecosystems at levels above the essential range. The toxicity of these biometals in fish embryogenesis, including their toxicity levels, was studied using medaka embryos. Test solutions (0.
