Clinical Comorbidities and Videourodynamic Characteristics of Dysfunctional Voiding in Women.

Biomedicines

January 2025

Department of Urology, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, Tzu Chi University, Hualien 97002, Taiwan.

The current study aimed to investigate the clinical comorbidities and urodynamic characteristics of a large cohort of women with dysfunctional voiding (DV) validated on a videourodynamic study (VUDS). Women who presented with VUDS-confirmed DV from 1998 to 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Data on clinical symptoms, VUDS findings, and medical comorbidities including medical illness and previous surgical history were recorded and examined.

Purpose: We aimed to determine whether implementation of clinical decision support (CDS) tool integrated into the electronic health record (EHR) of a multi-site academic medical center increased the proportion of patients with American Urological Association (AUA) "high risk" microscopic hematuria (MH) who receive guideline concordant evaluations.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a two-arm cluster randomized quality improvement project in which 202 ambulatory sites from a large health system were randomized to either have their physicians receive at time of test results an automated CDS alert for patients with 'high-risk' MH with associated recommendations for imaging and cystoscopy (intervention) or usual care (control). Primary outcome was met if a patient underwent both imaging and cystoscopy within 180 days from MH result.

Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is common in males with benign prostate enlargement (BPE) and often presents with different lower urinary tract symptoms. Overactive bladder (OAB) has been reported to be related to BOO, although it can also be idiopathic. The storage symptoms of BOO are often similar to those of OAB.

hemocyanin as a novel natural immunostimulant in mammals.

Front Immunol

Instituto de Investigaciones Bioquímicas de La Plata "Prof. Dr. Rodolfo R. Brenner", (INIBIOLP), Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) - Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), La Plata, Argentina.

Introduction: Gastropod hemocyanins are potent immunostimulants in mammals, a trait associated with their large molecular size and unusual glycosylation patterns. While the hemocyanin from the marine snail keyhole limpet (KLH), has been widely studied and successfully employed as a carrier/adjuvant in several immunological applications, as well as a non-specific immunostimulant for bladder cancer treatment, few other gastropod hemocyanins have been biochemically and immunologically characterized. In this work, we investigated the immunogenic properties of the hemocyanin from (PcH), an invasive south American freshwater snail.
