Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the organization and infrastructure of pharmaceutical services in the prison system of Rio Grande do Sul, identifying major deficiencies in the primary health care framework.
  • Most prison units lacked designated pharmacy areas and standardized procedures, with 78.4% reporting no operational guidelines for pharmacy activities.
  • Only a small percentage had a pharmacist on site, and many did not adequately monitor medication storage conditions or have proper medication dispensing processes in place, highlighting significant weaknesses in the system.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) has a high mortality and morbidity rate and seriously jeopardizes human life. Chemicals and chemotherapeutic agents have been experiencing problems such as side effects and drug resistance in the treatment of HCC, which cannot meet the needs of clinical treatment. Therefore, finding novel low-toxicity and high-efficiency anti-hepatocellular carcinoma drugs and exploring their mechanisms of action have become the current problems to be solved in the treatment of HCC.

Small Molecule Modulators of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK) Activity and Their Potential in Cancer Therapy.

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a central mediator of cellular metabolism and is activated in direct response to low ATP levels. Activated AMPK inhibits anabolic pathways and promotes catabolic activities that generate ATP through the phosphorylation of multiple target substrates. AMPK is a therapeutic target for activation in several chronic metabolic diseases, and there is increasing interest in targeting AMPK activity in cancer where it can act as a tumor suppressor or conversely it can support cancer cell survival.

Key Laboratory of Drug-Targeting and Drug Delivery System of the Education Ministry and Sichuan Province, Sichuan Engineering Laboratory for Plant-Sourced Drug and Sichuan Research Center for Drug Precision Industrial Technology, West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Contemporary osteoporosis treatment often neglects the intricate interactions among immune cells, signaling proteins, and cytokines within the osteoporotic microenvironment. Here, we developed core-shell nanocapsules composed of a cationized lactoferrin core and an alendronate polymer shell. By tuning the size of these nanocapsules and leveraging the alendronate shell, we enabled precise delivery of small interfering RNA targeting the Semaphorin 4D gene (siSema4D) to specific bone sites.

Titanium (Ti)-based MOFs are promising materials known for their porosity, stability, diverse valence states, and a lower conduction band (CB) than Zr-MOFs. These features support stable ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) transitions under photoirradiation, enhancing photocatalytic performance. However, Ti-MOF structures remain a challenge owing to the highly volatile and hydrophilic nature of ionic Ti precursors.
