Cannabis is being increasingly used as a medical treatment for a variety of illnesses. However, the cannabis plant has more than 70 different phytocannabinoids with potential pharmacologic activity. Two of the most researched phytocannabinoids are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Evidence suggests CBD can decrease some of the psychomimetic effects of THC. This has led to the development of a new drug, Nabiximols, for the treatment of moderate to severe spasticity due to multiple sclerosis. A discussion of evidence supporting proposed pharmacodynamic interplay between CBD and THC is presented.

We used our mouse papillomavirus (MmuPV1) model to test the hypothesis that two primary psychoactive ingredients of marijuana, Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), promote papillomavirus persistence in the oral mucosa of infected mice. We conducted intraperitoneal (ip) injections of a moderate dose (3 mg/kg) of either CBD and/or THC in both male and female athymic nude mice and followed the mice up to 20 weeks post-infection. These doses are comparable to what is estimated for human conventional cannabis consumption.

L. contains numerous compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, including the flavonoids and the cannabinoids, particularly Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabinoids have an effect on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a cellular communication network, and are, hence, widely studied for medical applications.

Background: Prenatal exposure to cannabis (or more specifically, delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol [Δ9-THC]) has been consistently linked to low birthweight. Animal models further show that Δ9-THC is associated with rapid postnatal growth. Whether this association is modified by breastfeeding is unknown.

Background: Analysis of the phytocannabinoids holds significant importance because of their various pharmacological properties and potential therapeutic applications. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) coupled with electrospray ionization in positive ion mode is employed in this study to describe the collision-induced dissociation (CID) behavior of a series of common phytocannabinoids with the aim of establishing a generalized MS/MS fingerprint.
Materials And Methods: Eight phytocannabinoids, namely, ∆-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabigerol (CBG), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), 11-hydroxy-Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (11-OH-THC), 6-hydroxy-cannabidiol (6-OH-CBD), and 7-hydroxy-cannabidiol (7-OH-CBD), were studied.

Cannabis sativa is a complex plant, renowned for its diverse array of bioactive compounds, the most prominent of which are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These compounds exhibit markedly opposing pharmacological effects, with THC being primarily psychoactive and CBD known for its non-psychoactive properties. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the potential health implications of these compounds, particularly concerning male reproductive health.
