Background: Cartilage defects in the knee joint are areas of damage and wear to the cartilage that normally covers and protects the ends of bones. These defects occur due to sudden injuries, such as trauma or sports accidents, or due to chronic conditions, such as osteoarthritis. Cartilage acts as a shock absorber (cushion absorber), reducing the impact of mechanical stress on the joints, which helps prevent bone damage during movement.

In this study, the analysis of 2824 vulnerable road users (VRU) accident data from China's FASS (Future mobile traffic Accident Scenario Study) database indicates that VRU side impacts are the most common collision scenarios. According to South Korea's Ministry of Employment and Labor, approximately 25,000 construction workers suffered from various injuries between 2015 and 2019. Additionally, about 500 fatalities occur annually, and multiple studies are being conducted to prevent these accidents and quickly identify their occurrence to secure the golden time for the injured. Recently, AI-based video analysis systems for detecting safety accidents have been introduced.
