Dye stabilized nanoemulsions offer the unique possibility of creating both silica capsules and sub-20-nm particles with precise control of particle size and narrow dispersity from the same system by the choice of the proper dye. The large o/w interface enhances the kinetics of particle formation significantly over macroscopic interfaces which enables the synthesis of silica nanoparticles without any catalyst or elevated temperatures under static conditions. This is in contrast to syntheses for sub-20-nm silica nanoparticles described until now which can normally not be conducted at neutral pH and/or room temperature without stirring. Furthermore, the synthesis can be run without any additional organic solvent and the dyes can be easily removed from the dispersion which opens the pathway to silica dispersions containing only particles, traces of ethanol and water at neutral pH without centrifugation, washing, or redispersion in accordance with the idea of "green chemistry".

Herein, a water-soluble, ultrabright, near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent, mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs)-peptide bioconjugate is designed with dual targeting capabilities. Cancer cell surface overexpressed αβ integrin targeting two RGDS tetrapeptide residues is tethered at the macrocycle of MIMs-peptide bioconjugate via Cu(I)-catalyzed click chemistry on the Wang resin, and mitochondria targeting lipophilic cationic TPP functionality is conjugated at the axle dye. Living carcinoma cell selective active targeting, subsequently cell penetration, mitochondrial imaging, including the ultrastructure of cristae, and real-time tracking of malignant mitochondria by MIMs-peptide bioconjugate (RGDS)-Mito-MIMs-TPP are established by stimulated emission depletion (STED) super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.

Two porphyrin-based polymeric frameworks, SnP-BTC and SnP-BTB, as visible light photocatalysts for wastewater remediation were prepared by the solvothermal reaction of -dihydroxo-[5,15,10,20-tetrakis(phenyl)porphyrinato]tin(IV) (SnP) with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (HBTC) and 1,3,5-tris(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (HBTB), respectively. The strong bond between the carboxylic acid group of HBTC and HBTB with the axial hydroxyl moiety of SnP leads to the formation of highly stable polymeric architectures. Incorporating the carboxylic acid group onto the surface of SnP changes the conformational frameworks as well as produces rigid structural transformation that includes permanent porosity, good thermodynamic stability, interesting morphology, and excellent photocatalytic degradation activity against AM dye and TC antibiotic under visible light irradiation.

Basic dyes are highly toxic and have adverse effects on humans such as accelerated heart rate, shock, cyanosis, and tissue necrosis upon ingestion or skin contact. Efficient removal of basic dye pollutants from wastewater is therefore essential for the protection of the environment and human health. Biomolecules exhibit excellent dye removal performance in terms of removal capacity, selectivity, and rate.

Cellulase is extensively used in the biorefinery of cellulosic materials to fermentable sugars in bioethanol production. Application of cellulase in the free form has disadvantages in enzyme wastage and low stability. The results of the present work showed these drawbacks can be solved by cellulase immobilization on functionalized FeO magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with reactive red 120 (RR120) as the affinity ligands.

Elucidating the interaction between membrane proteins and antibodies requires whole-cell imaging at high spatiotemporal resolution. Lattice light-sheet (LLS) microscopy offers fast volumetric imaging but suffers from limited spatial resolution. DNA-based point accumulation for imaging in nanoscale topography (DNA-PAINT) achieves molecular resolution but is restricted to two-dimensional imaging owing to long acquisition times.
