Band erosion is one late complication of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), with the reported incidence between 1% and 28%. Far less common is oesophageal adenocarcinoma after LAGB, with only three cases previously described. Here we report a single case of complete gastric inlet obstruction with oesophageal adenocarcinoma and complete internalization of a gastric band 19 years after its placement.

Objective: To study the prevalence of synchronous oesophageal cancer in patients with head and neck cancers using Narrow Band Imaging and Lugol's chromoendoscopy.
Materials And Methods: Study design: Prospective cross sectional diagnostic study. Method: 63 recruited patients with head and neck cancers, underwent haematologic evaluation, histological confirmation, imaging which included contrast enhanced computerised tomography(CECT) of the Neck and when indicated an additional Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) scan followed by UGI endoscopy using white light followed by Narrow Band Imaging(NBI) and Lugol's chromoendoscopy(LCE).

One risk factor for anastomotic leakage (AL) after esophagectomy with retrosternal gastric reconstruction is excessive compression of the gastric tube at the thoracic inlet. In this study, we evaluated the effect of our modified procedure to reduce AL by placing the esophagogastric anastomosis below the thoracic inlet. Between January 2008 and December 2022, 174 consecutive patients underwent subtotal esophagectomy with retrosternal gastric pull up, followed by circular stapler anastomosis in our hospitals.

Background: Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) targets intraperitoneal tumors with heated drug solutions via catheters inserted into the peritoneal space. Although studies have focused on clinical outcomes, the flow dynamics at specific intra-abdominal locations at-risk of harboring malignant cells remain poorly understood but are likely to impact the drug pharmacokinetics. Consequently, optimal protocols remain uncertain, with efficacy critically dependent on drug temperature and flow rate.

We investigated the contents inside the esophagus and stomach of turtles inside and outside of the Tokyo Bay area, which face high and low risks of microplastic (MP) exposure, respectively. 65 synthetic particles were recovered from 8 out of 22 turtles, using ATR-FTIR followed by density separation with calcium chloride solution. Statistical analysis indicated that turtles in high-risk areas ingested significantly more MPs than those in low-risk areas.

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) are of interest due to their potential health properties and have a significant role in reducing the risk of various chronic diseases in humans. It is commonly used as a supplement. However, lipid oxidation is an important negative factor caused by environmental, processing, and limited water solubility of LCPUFA, making them difficult to incorporate into food products.
