Proteolytic pH-activity curve and agar gel electrophoretic pattern of acid proteolytic zymogens in serum and urine were studied in totally gastrectomized patients. In serum, total gastrectomy was found to reduce proteolytic activity markedly, but no appreciable changes could be detected by electrophoretic analysis. In urine, however, in addition to the marked reduction of proteolytic activity, changes were found in electrophoretic pattern after total gastrectomy. Namely, fraction Pg 3 tended to persist, while Pg 5 disappeared along with the lapse of time after total gastrectomy. An unusual appearance of fraction Pg 7 in urine was also observed on the occasion of postoperative transient albuminuria. Their orgins and related clinical problems were discussed.

The present study employed a large scaled multicenter nationwide study data analysis to elucidate the impact of thromboembolism prophylaxis (TEP) in the context of bariatric and metabolic surgery and to investigate the peri- and postoperative complications associated with TEP. A total of 63,909 patients who underwent primary bariatric surgery between 2005 and 2020 were included in the analysis. The data were collected prospectively and multicentrically in the German Bariatric Surgery Registry (GBSR) and subsequently analyzed retrospectively.

Since long-term results after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are rather scarce, this study aims to add LSG results with a minimum of 5 years of follow-up. Prospectively collected data from primary LSG in a tertiary bariatric center from 08/2007 to 12/2018 with follow-up ≥ 5 years were analyzed retrospectively. Primary endpoints included total body weight loss (%TBWL) and excess weight loss (%EWL), insufficient weight loss (IWL), weight regain (WR), remission of associated diseases, development of new-onset gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and nutritional deficiencies.

Background And Objective: Gastric cancer (GC) remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The current standard of care involves neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by radical gastrectomy. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in comparison to chemotherapy alone for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC).

Methods: This study was a randomized, placebo-controlled trial including patients undergoing laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.

Introduction: This study examines how gastric cancer patients adjust their eating habits and quality of life after total gastrectomy, particularly concerning early satiety. While total gastrectomy may provide a potential cure, it also leads to significant physical, psychological, and social changes. Understanding these adaptations is essential for enhancing survivorship care.
