Localized hepatic tuberculosis (TB) with or without bile duct involvement is a rare form of hepatobiliary tuberculosis; accounting for less than 1% of all tuberculous infections. We report an uncommon case of cholestatic jaundice with disseminated TB in an immunocompetent male who presented with simultaneous involvement of liver and biliary system.

Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) tuberculosis (TB) is a rare form of extra-pulmonary TB that poses a diagnostic dilemma and is a great masquerader of malignancy. It is almost always curable but requires a high degree of suspicion and corroboratory evidence to document its existence. Medline/PubMed was searched with keywords "hepatic", "liver", "biliary" and "pancreatic" with "tuberculosis".

Article Synopsis
  • Gallbladder TB (GBTB) is a rare disease that can mimic symptoms of other conditions like gallbladder cancer and cholecystitis, leading to misdiagnosis.
  • A 33-year-old woman presented with obstructive jaundice and was initially thought to have advanced gallbladder carcinoma, but biopsies revealed it was actually infiltrative GBTB, confirmed by additional tests.
  • The diagnosis of GBTB can be challenging due to non-specific symptoms, and physicians should consider it in TB-prone areas to avoid surgical misdiagnosis.

Peripancreatic tuberculosis (PTB) is a very rare variant of tuberculosis and its clinical and radiological findings are similar to those of pancreatic malignancy. Diagnosis of PTB is usually incidental and is made after surgical resection. We are presenting a male patient who had complaints of prolonged fever, significant weight loss and yellowish discolouration of eyes and dark-coloured urine.

The pancreatic form of tuberculosis (TB) is rare and its diagnosis is challenging, since it manifests itself with non-specific symptoms and non-pathognomonic radiological findings, mimicking a neoplasia of the pancreas. Here, we report the case of a patient who had previously undergone liver transplantation and sought care for abdominal pain, weight loss, anorexia, hematochezia and postprandial fullness. Following an exploratory laparotomy and nucleic acid amplification testing on a pancreatic sample that had been collected, the patient was diagnosed with pancreatic TB.
