A carotid body tumor is a rare neoplasm, generally benign, that predominantly affects people between their fourth and fifth decades of life. It manifests as a pulsatile and generally painless cervical mass with firm consistency, located below the angle of the jaw. It can progress to the extent that it causes localized pain, dysphagia, hiccups, hoarseness and hypersensitive carotid body syndrome. This article reports the cases of two female patients diagnosed with this tumor who were treated surgically. The first was treated with block resection of the tumor, while the second patient, who had an early stage tumor, was treated with subadventitial resection of the lesion.

Background: This study aims to identify a pathogenic SDHD mutation associated with hereditary head and neck paraganglioma (HNPGL) in a Chinese family and to explore its implications for genetic counseling.
Methods: The study involved a family with 15 members spanning three generations. A 31-year-old patient (II-4) was diagnosed with a left parotid gland tumor and a right carotid body tumor, while both the father and elder sister had right carotid body tumors, and the third sister had bilateral carotid body tumors.

An association of mental health and in particular depression with cardiovascular disease has been shown in adults and to a lesser extent in the young. Recently improved measurement methods of carotid-intima media thickness (CIMT) and carotid stiffness (CS) allow more differentiated analyses of this link. We examined 4,361 participants of the nationwide KiGGS cohort aged 3-17 years at baseline and 14-28 years at follow-up.

Background: Previous studies suggest an association between Alzheimer's disease and carotid artery atherosclerosis. However, the association between atherosclerotic carotid plaque composition and Alzheimer's disease pathology (neuritic plaques and neurofibrillary tangles) has not been explored yet.
Method: Carotid arteries were dissected and the segments with the largest obstruction in the carotid bifurcation, and the common and internal carotid arteries were obtained.

Foreign body ingestion is a problem that commonly presents in almost all otolaryngologic practices. However, less commonly do those foreign bodies perforate, migrate to, and impact the soft tissue of the neck while nearly invading the carotid sheath that accommodates the major neurovascular supply of the head. We report the case of a patient who had radiologic evidence of foreign body impaction and required neck exploration through an external approach to retrieve a crab leg embedded far within the deep cervical fascia.
