Although it was decades in the making, the urgency to move beyond simplistic rules for interpreting p values is quickly increasing. While p values may never completely disappear from our quantitative analysis tool box, the need to actively consider the practical significance of our statistical findings increases each day. In this Methodology Corner article, the concept of practical significance is reviewed and compared to our evolving concept of statistical significance.

Objective: We present the outcome of urinary incontinence surgery after TVT more than five year of follow-up. Efficacy was evaluated in terms of complete cure of incontinence, complications, and patient satisfaction.
Material And Methods: A sample of 369 female with genuine stress incontinence or mixed incontinence who had a TVT performed in our hospital between 1998-2003 were evaluated.
Even the most hardened emergency nurse will admit that there are few more distressing sights and experiences than a sudden infant death. The urgency of the crew bringing the infant in; the desperation of mothers who only a few hours before cuddled their baby in their arms; the sombre mood of staff who know that there can only be one outcome but who try anyway. It's a horrible experience for all concerned and everyone feels that even doing everything they could, they have still failed.

Five cases of acute urinary obstruction during pregnancy are presented. A complete urodynamic workup, including pressure-flow studies showed high micturitional pressures with little or no flow, with at least 60% residual urine. Filling cystometry, urethral profilometry (static and dynamic), pelvic electromyography were normal.
