The effect of two Marek's disease (MD) vaccines on the chicken embryo immune responses were evaluated. Transcription of interferon (IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-λ, and IFN-γ) and interferon-I receptors (IFN-AR1 and IFN-AR2), as well as transcription of toll like receptors (TLR-3, TLR-7, and TLR-21) were evaluated in the bursa, thymus, spleen and lung of 1-day-old chickens that had been vaccinated with HVT, CVI988, or sham inoculated at embryonic day 18 (ED18). Each vaccine had a unique effect on the transcription of the evaluated genes and it differs among tissues. HVT increased IFN-γ and TLR-3 transcripts in the spleen and lung and IFN-β in the bursa. The immune responses elicited by CVI988 differed from that observed in the HVT inoculated group. CVI988 downregulated several of the studied genes and only upregulated IFN-β and TLR-21 in spleen. Differences in vaccine replication (53% of spleens and lungs of HVT-vaccinated embryos but only 22% of spleens of CVI988-vaccinated embryos had detectable viral gB transcripts) were detected. Previously, we have shown that intra-amniotic vaccination at ED18 with HVT but not with CVI988 rendered chickens more immunocompetent at hatch. The role of increased transcription of TLR-3 and IFN-γ in such positive effect warrant further investigations.

Despite the significant growth in Sonali chicken production across Bangladesh, inadequate disease surveillance and control measures along with indiscriminate antimicrobial use remain major challenges to the sector. In this study, we evaluated the disease burden and antimicrobial prescription patterns of Sonali chickens in Bangladesh using a web-based data recording system from 2020 to 2021 and analyzed 1690 cases. The diagnoses recorded in the system were presumptive, as they were based on clinico-epidemiological history, clinical signs, and gross necropsy findings noted by registered veterinarians.

Objective: Remote identification of individuals with severe hyposmia may enable scalable recruitment of participants with underlying alpha-synuclein aggregation. We evaluated the performance of a staged screening paradigm using remote smell testing to enrich for abnormal dopamine transporter single-photon emission computed tomography imaging (DAT-SPECT) and alpha-synuclein aggregation.
Methods: The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) recruited participants for the prodromal cohort who were 60-years and older without a Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
Objectives: To determine the impact of dopamine deficiency and isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) on cognitive performance in early neuronal alpha-synuclein disease (NSD) with hyposmia.
Methods: Using Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative baseline data, cognitive performance was assessed with a cognitive summary score (CSS) developed by applying regression-based internal norms derived from a robust healthy control (HC) group. Performance was examined for participants with hyposmia classified as NSD-Integrated Staging System (NSD-ISS) Stage 2, either Stage 2A (CSF alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay [SAA]+, SPECT dopamine transporter scan [DaTscan]-) or 2B (SAA+, DaTscan+).

Unlabelled: In poultry, fowl adenovirus (FAdV) and co-infected viruses (such as avian hepatitis E virus, aHEV) are likely to cause decreased egg production, inclusion body hepatitis, and pericardial effusion syndrome. From July to September 2023, eight poultry farms of commercial broilers and commercial layers suffered from increased mortality, decreased egg production, and the presence of hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome-like gross lesions in Shaanxi province, China. To determine the source of the infection, the viruses of aHEV, FAdV, avian leukosis virus (ALV), Marek's disease virus (MDV), Newcastle disease virus (NDV), and H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) were detected.

The interest for in ovo feeding has grown in the last decades mainly concerning probiotics, live microorganisms that can actively interact with the embryo. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a multi-strain probiotic diluted in Marek's disease vaccine (MDV) on zootechnical performances, intestinal morphology and spp. infection.
