To study the impact of mutual care on the physical and mental health of rural elderly, and provide countermeasures and suggestions for the long-term development of mutual care. Data chosen from the 2018 China health and retirement longitudinal study (CHARLS) were selected, with 8369 elderly people aged ≥ 60 years old, and propensity scores were matched using nearest-neighbor matching, kernel matching, and radius matching, and then heterogeneity was used to analyze the mean effect values among different populations. The results of propensity score matching PSM showed that participation in mutual care had a significant positive effect on the mental health of the rural elderly, with a net effect of 0.

Aging populations are susceptible to climate change due to physiological factors and comorbidities. Most relevant studies reported the effect of temperature on cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality in aging populations. However, the combined effects of temperature and humidity on CVD-related mortality remain unclear.

Background: A significant relationship is present between childhood hunger experiences (CHEs) and health, but explorations of the longitudinal persistence of this relationship and its mediating mechanisms are still lacking. This study aims to evaluate the effects of CHEs on health in middle and old age and determine the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: Using data from the five 2011-2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and the 2014 China Life History Survey Questionnaire, a sample of 9,909 individuals aged 45 years and older who participated in all six surveys was obtained.

Physical activity is recommended for older adults; however, the benefits of previous active engagement in physical activity that can be sustained after one becomes inactive remain to be determined. This study investigated the longitudinal associations between physical activity engagement patterns and older adults' well-being. This population-based cohort study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study between 2015 and 2020.

Waterfowl serve as indicators of ecosystem health and represent a pathway of contaminant exposure for hunters who consume them. In the northeast Atlantic Flyway, data on baseline contaminant loads in waterfowl are lacking. We assessed five species of commonly harvested (and consumed) waterfowl for mercury, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
