Published: February 2017

This study had two main objectives: (1) to determine if differences in Functional Movement Screen (FMS) scores exist between two levels of competition; and (2) to analyze the association between FMS individual and overall scores and physical performance variables of lower-limb power (jumps), repeated sprint ability and shot speed. Twenty-two Under 16 (U16) and twenty-six Under 19 (U19) national competitive soccer players participated in this study. All participants were evaluated according to anthropometrics, FMS, jump performance, instep kick speed and anaerobic performance. There were no significant differences in the individual FMS scores between competitive levels. There were significant negative correlations between hurdle step (right) and Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) power average ( ρ = -0.293; = 0.043) and RAST fatigue index (RAST FatIndex) ( ρ = -0.340; = 0.018). The hurdle step (left) had a significant negative correlation to squat jump (SJ) ( ρ = -0.369; = 0.012). Rotary stability had a significant negative correlation to RAST fatigue index (Right: ρ = -0.311; = 0.032. Left: ρ = -0.400; = 0.005). The results suggest that individual FMS scores may be better discriminants of performance than FMS total score and established minimal association between FMS scores and physical variables. Based on that, FMS may be suitable for the purposes of determining physical function but not for discriminating physical performance.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. (J.A.M., U.S., F.G., E.C., D.S.C.-J., G.C.S.S.).

Background: Elevated maternal serum sFLT1 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1) has a key role in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. We sought to determine the relationship between the maternal and fetal genome and maternal levels of sFLT1 at 12, 20, 28, and 36 weeks of gestational age (wkGA).

Methods: We studied a prospective cohort of nulliparous women (3968 mother-child pairs).

Context: Functional movement screen (FMS) and Y-balance test (YBT) are used to predict the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. FMS and YBT tools in relation to injury in elite female softball athletes have not been examined.

Objectives: This study aims to (1) compare the differences in FMS, Y-Balance upper quarter (YBT-UQ), and lower quarter (YBT-LQ) scores between injured and noninjured group and (2) determine the ability of FMS and YBT scores to predict the odds of musculoskeletal injury in elite fast-pitch female softball athletes.

The complex 'language' of plant RNA encodes a vast array of biological regulatory elements that orchestrate crucial aspects of plant growth, development and adaptation to environmental stresses. Recent advancements in foundation models (FMs) have demonstrated their unprecedented potential to decipher complex 'language' in biology. In this study, we introduced PlantRNA-FM, a high-performance and interpretable RNA FM specifically designed for plants.

Department of Rheumatology, Guang' anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100053, China.

Objective: To explore the effects of overweight and obesity (overweight/obesity) on symptom severity and quality of life in Chinese patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was used to collect general data on height, weight, gender and age of 435 FMS patients who visited the rheumatology clinic of Guang 'anmen Hospital from October 2018 to December 2021. The numbers of tender points, widespread pain index and symptom severity scale were used as diagnostic indicators of the disease.

Impact of Core Training on Functional Movement Screen Scores in Athletes: A Critically Appraised Topic.

J Sport Rehabil

December 2024

REhabilitation, Athletic assessment, & DYnamic imaging (READY) Laboratory, Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Science, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, USA.

Clinical Scenario: The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is used to assess movement patterns and the risk of injury of active individuals. Current studies have found positive relationships with core training and injury prevention as well as lower limb stability, which can help improve FMS scores.

Clinical Question: Does the implementation of a core training program have an impact on FMS scores in healthy active adults who participate in sport?

Summary Of Key Findings: Literature was searched for articles that included core-focused exercises and implementation of the FMS.
