Aims: Despite guideline-recommended treatments, including renin angiotensin system inhibition, up to 40 % of individuals with type 1 diabetes develop chronic kidney disease (CKD) putting them at risk of kidney failure. Finerenone is approved to reduce the risk of kidney failure in individuals with type 2 diabetes. We postulate that finerenone will demonstrate benefits on kidney outcomes in people with type 1 diabetes.

Metal contamination poses a significant threat to elasmobranchs, underscoring the need for targeted conservation approaches. The critically endangered Brazilian guitarfish, Pseudobatos horkelii, confronts an array of challenges, notably overexploitation, putting its survival at risk. Our study investigated the potential toxicity arising from arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) contamination across various adult guitarfish tissues from southeastern Brazil.

Purpose Of Program: Adolescents and young adults with chronic disease face many personal and systemic barriers that may impede their successful transition from pediatric to adult care, putting them at risk for treatment nonadherence, loss to follow-up, and poor health outcomes. Such barriers include impaired socioemotional functioning, overreliance on adult caregivers, lack of disease-specific knowledge, and poor coordination between pediatric and adult health care services. In 2007, we established a specialized youth to adult nephrology transition clinic at a tertiary care center to address these barriers and provide adolescents and young adults with renal disease followed at the affiliated children's hospital with a seamless transition to adult care.

Background: Hemolysis after Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) device closure is rare. Although in most cases, hemolysis settles on its own; however, in some cases it may not settle spontaneously and may require additional procedures like putting additional coils, gel foam or thrombin instillation, balloon occlusion, or removing it surgically. We report a case of adult PDA device closure who persisted with hemolysis and was managed by transcatheter retrieval.

Introduction: Frameshift in medical management as well as in surgical thinking is putting the patient as a whole is the focus, rather than just the disease. To optimize the treatment of our pediatric transplant patients in our institution, we changed in 2013 the transplant program setting, treating, and operating all patients with pediatric transplant exclusively in a pediatric environment. The aim of this study was to analyze whether or not this change had an impact on patients safety, patient population, and patients and transplant outcome.
