This paper mainly deals with the isovaleraldehyde degradation with the help of a nonthermal plasma surface discharge (NPSD) coupled with photocatalysis. The efficiency of NPSD reactor, for gas treatment, was studied for different binary mixtures: (1) mixture of aldehydes (Isovaleraldehyde and Butyraldehyde) and (2) mixture of aldehyde and amine (Isovaleraldehyde and Trimethylamine). A planar continuous reactor is used to investigate the effect of addition of another pollutant on the performance of oxidation process. A synergetic effect was observed by combining NPSD and photocatalysis for the degradation of mixture of pollutants. In addition, combined NPSD/photocatalysis has significantly enhanced the CO selectivity, as compared to NPSD alone. This is attributed to the formation of more reactive species due to the presence of TiO in the plasma discharge zone. Moreover, ozone and UV light on TiO, produced by plasma, have activated the surface leading to enhanced mineralization. In addition, the byproducts of each binary mixture were identified and evaluated.

Pollution in marine creeks has been increasing due to anthropogenic activities and has been a global concern. Limited research has been conducted on pharmaceuticals in marine sediment and macroalgae in African countries. In the present study, the levels of pharmaceuticals were assessed in surface sediment and different species of macroalgae (ulvophyceae; Cladophora sudanensis, Chaetomorpha crassa, Chaetomorpha indica, Enteromorpha kylinii, Ulva reticulate, Ulva lactuca and Cladophora sibugae) in Mombasa peri-urban creeks (Tudor, Makupa and Mtwapa creek) and Gazi bay during dry and wet seasons.

Thirty-seven steroid drugs of different types were investigated in silico for their environmental and pharmacokinetic properties (partition between soil and water, bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms, ability to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and to cross biological barriers-skin, blood-brain barrier and placenta) using on-line tools and novel QSAR models. The same drugs were studied by Molecular Docking in the context of their ability to interact with two enzymes-glutathione S-transferase (GST) and human N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2), which are involved in the placenta's protective system against harmful xenobiotics. Steroid drugs are released to the environment from households, hospitals, manufacturing plants and farms (e.

In this study, the potential to modify the phase structure and morphology of manganese dioxide synthesized via the hydrothermal route was explored. A series of samples were prepared at different synthesis temperatures (100, 120, 140, and 160 °C) using KMnO and MnSO·HO as precursors. The phase composition and morphology of the materials were analyzed using various physicochemical methods.

Numerous studies have investigated the surface treatment of implants using various types of plasma, including atmospheric pressure plasma and vacuum plasma, to remove impurities and increase surface energy, thereby enhancing osseointegration. Most previous studies have focused on generating plasma directly on the implant surface by using the implant as an electrode for plasma discharge. However, plasmas generated under atmospheric and moderate vacuum conditions often have a limited plasma volume, meaning the shape of the electrodes significantly influences the local electric field characteristics, which in turn affects plasma behavior.

Background: Gastric bezoars are indigestible masses that can lead to gastrointestinal obstruction and ulceration. Standard treatments include endoscopic mechanical lithotripsy with a polypectomy snare and Coca-Cola dissolution therapy or a combination of both approaches. However, giant bezoars frequently require multiple treatment sessions and extended hospital stays.
