The data presented in this article are related to the research article entitled "Cubic phases in phosphatidylethanolamine dispersions: formation, stability and phase transitions (Tenchov and Koynova, 2017) [1]. This article presents thermodynamic data obtained by differential scanning calorimetry following the evolution of the L - H endotherm upon temperature cycling during the lamellar to cubic phase conversion.

Phospholipids are the main building components of cell membranes and are also used for cell signaling and as energy storages. Cancer cells alter their lipid metabolism, which ultimately leads to an increase in phospholipids in cancer tissue. Surgical energy instruments use electrical or vibrational energy to heat tissues, which causes intra- and extracellular water to expand rapidly and degrade cell structures, bursting the cells, which causes the formation of a tissue aerosol or smoke depending on the amount of energy used.

Purpose: Ischemic stroke is a refractory disease wherein the reperfusion injury caused by sudden restoration of blood supply is the main cause of increased mortality and disability. However, current therapeutic strategies for the inflammatory response induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury are unsatisfactory. This study aimed to develop a functional nanoparticle (MM/ANPs) comprising apelin-13 (APNs) encapsulated in macrophage membranes (MM) modified with distearoyl phosphatidylethanolamine-polyethylene glycol-RVG29 (DSPE-PEG-RVG29) to achieve targeted therapy against ischemic stroke.

Article Synopsis
  • Ovarian cancer is a serious condition with poor treatment outcomes, often leading to metastasis and recurrence, prompting the development of a targeted drug delivery system using HA-modified paclitaxel and diosgenin liposomes.*
  • The novel liposomes, PEG-TK-HA-PDLPs, demonstrated strong cytotoxic effects on cancer cells in lab tests, showing improved cellular uptake and significant anti-tumor actions in animal studies.*
  • Overall, PEG-TK-HA-PDLPs represent a promising new approach for treating ovarian cancer by effectively targeting tumors and inhibiting cancer cell growth and angiogenesis.*

Hemoglobin-Vesicles (Hb-V) are artificial oxygen carriers encapsulating a purified and concentrated Hb solution in liposomes composed of 1,2-dipalmitoyl--glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC), cholesterol, 1,5--dihexadecyl--succinyl-l-glutamate (DHSG), and 1,2-distearoyl--glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine--poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) (DSPE-PEG). The safety and efficacy of Hb-V have been studied extensively by both preclinical and clinical test methods. Deoxygenation of Hb-V prevents autoxidation of Hb and can extend its shelf life to 2 years at room temperature.

Development of Liposomes Loaded with Chloroaluminum Phthalocyanine for Application of Photodynamic Therapy in Breast Cancer.

J Pharm Sci

Institute of Health Sciences, University for International Integration of the Afro-Brazilian Lusophony, Redenção, Ceará, Brazil; Federal University of Ceará, Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate course, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Electronic address:

Chloraluminium phthalocyanine (ClAlPc) has potential therapeutic effect for the treatment of cancer; however, the molecule is lipophilic and may present self-aggregation which limits its clinical success. Thus, nanocarriers like liposomes can improve ClAlPc solubility, reduce off-site toxicity and increase circulation time. For this purpose, developing suitable liposomes requires the evaluation of different lipid compositions.
