AI Article Synopsis

  • The study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Radboud Oral Motor Inventory for Parkinson's Disease (ROMP) into Brazilian Portuguese, ensuring its reliability and validity.
  • The methodology included translation, back-translation, and testing the instrument's internal consistency and reproducibility with 27 Parkinson's patients.
  • Results showed high internal consistency (0.99 overall) and excellent reproducibility, confirming that the adapted ROMP is a reliable and valid tool for assessing oral motor function in Portuguese-speaking Parkinson’s patients.

Article Abstract

Objective: To translate and linguistically and culturally adapt to Brazilian Portuguese, and verify the reliability and validity of the Radboud Oral Motor Inventory for Parkinson's Disease (ROMP).

Methods: The ROMP was translated and retranslated, and the instrument reliability was verified by analyzing the internal consistency and the reproducibility of the intra-examiner retest. The final version was applied to 27 participants with Parkinson's disease.

Results: Internal consistency was 0.99 for the total ROMP and 0.96 to 0.99 for the three domains. Intraclass correlation coefficients for reproducibility were 0.99 for the total ROMP and 0.93 to 0.99 for the subscales. The ROMP and its subscales correlated substantially with the Likert-type scale, as well as with the unified Parkinson's disease rating scale II and III items.

Conclusion: The linguistic and cultural equivalence of the ROMP in Brazilian Portuguese is now available, with excellent reliability and validity.

Background: The prevalence of hearing loss in infants in India varies between 4 and 5 per 1000. Objective-based otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem response have been used in high-income countries for establishing early hearing screening and intervention programs. Nevertheless, the use of objective screening tests in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India is not feasible.

Department of Surgery, Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital, Oslo; Department of Public Health Science, Institute of Health and Society, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.

Background And Purpose:  Measuring patient satisfaction after total hip (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is important. We aimed to cross-culturally adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the self-reported Goodman Satisfaction Score (GSS) in a sample of Norwegian patients following primary THA and TKA.

Methods:  The GSS was translated and adapted into Norwegian (GSS-NO) following standard guidelines.

The fish intestine is a complex ecosystem where microbial communities are dynamic and influenced by various factors. Preservation conditions during field collection can introduce biases affecting the microbiota amplified during sequencing. Therefore, establishing effective, standardized methods for sampling fish intestinal microbiota is crucial.
