J. Wang, S. Chen, and co-workers use a newly developed 3D printing technique on page 4411 to print freely swimming microfish with diverse designs. The system uses light to print biocompatible hydrogels and functional nanoparticles into the biomimetic shape of fish at a feature size of 1 μm. These microfish are powered by harvesting the energy from the surrounding fluid environment and guided remotely by a magnetic field. Efficient detoxification is shown by incorporation of toxin-absorbing functional nanoparticles. This work can be readily extended to engineer advanced functional biorobotics for diverse applications ranging from drug delivery to environmental detoxification.

Selenium is an essential element with various industrial and medical applications, hence the current considerable attention towards the genesis and utilization of SeNPs. SeNPs and other nanoparticles could be achieved via physical and chemical methods, but these methods would not only require expensive equipment and specific reagents but are also not always environment friendly. Biogenesis of SeNPs could therefore be considered as a less troublesome alternative, which opens an excellent window to the selenium and nanoparticles' world.

Context: "Nanostructure of graphene-reinforced with polymethyl methacrylate" (PMMA-G), and vice versa, is investigated using its molecular structure, in the present work. The PMMA-G nanostructure was constructed by bonding PMMA with graphene nanosheet in a sense to get three different configurations. Each configuration consisted of polymeric structures with three degrees of polymerization (such as monomers, dimers, and trimers polymers, respectively).

Metasurfaces supporting narrowband resonances are of significant interest in photonics for molecular sensing, quantum light source engineering, and nonlinear photonics. However, many device architectures rely on large refractive index dielectric materials and lengthy fabrication processes. In this work, we demonstrate quasi-bound states in the continuum (quasi-BICs) using a polymer metasurface exhibiting experimental quality factors of 305 at visible wavelengths.

A new aptamer-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) system has been designed to detect Hg that utilizes near-infrared (NIR)-to-NIR gold nanoparticle coated NaYF:Yb,Tm,Gd up-conversion nanoparticles (AuNPs@NaYF:Yb,Tm,Gd UCNPs) as probes. The AuNPs@NaYF:Yb,Tm,Gd UCNPs were prepared and excited by near-infrared light (980 nm) which emitted at a near-infrared wavelength (808 nm) using an inexpensive infrared continuous wave laser diode. The AuNPs@NaYF:Yb,Tm,Gd UCNPs were conjugated with Hg aptamers.

Biochips are widely applied to manipulate the geometrical morphology of stem cells in recent years. Patterned antenna-like pseudopodia are also probed to explore the influence of pseudopodia formation on gene delivery and expression on biochips. However, how the antenna-like pseudopodia affect gene transfection is unsettled and the underlying trafficking mechanism of exogenous genes in engineered single cells is not announced.
