Background: Human trafficking (HT) survivors are at risk for substance use disorder (SUD), although assessing the SUD epidemiology of HT survivors is difficult. This study used data from the 2019 to 2021 Nationwide Emergency Department Sample to estimate the prevalence of SUD for HT survivors utilizing emergency departments (ED) in the United States of America (US).

Methods: We included visits for patients aged 12-64 years with any International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) codes documenting HT as a cause of morbidity ( 1,688,  141) or history of HT ( 2,524,  218).

This population-based cohort study aimed to evaluate the risk of osteoporosis and fractures associated with higher-potency statin use compared to lower-potency statin use in patients with stroke, using data from the Health Insurance and Review Assessment database of South Korea (2010-2019). Patients who received statin within 30 days after hospitalization for a new-onset stroke (n = 276,911) were divided into higher-potency (n = 212,215, 76.6%) or lower-potency (n = 64,696, 23.

Geospatial patterns by cancer stage across Australia for three common cancers.

Cancer Epidemiol

December 2024

Centre for Data Science, Faculty of Science, Queensland University of Technology 2 George St, Brisbane, Queensland 4000,  Australia; Viertel Cancer Research Centre, Cancer Council Queensland, 553 Gregory Terrace, Fortitude Valley, Queensland 4006, Australia. Electronic address:

Background: Monitoring cancer stage is vital to interpret cancer incidence and survival patterns, yet there are currently no cancer stage estimates by small areas across Australia, despite demonstrated large disparities in cancer incidence and survival. While cancer stage data is not routinely collected in Australia, a pilot project collected stage information nationwide in 2011.

Methods: Data on all primary invasive melanoma, female breast and prostate cancers (stages 1-4) diagnosed during 2011 in Australia were categorised into early and intermediate/advanced stage at diagnosis.

Background: Cancer has become the leading cause of death among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in high-income countries. T2D is suggested to directly influence cancer progression. However, the association between T2D and melanoma stage at diagnosis remains uncertain, as well as any potential sex disparities.

The goal of this study was to evaluate characteristics associated with Pre-exposure Prophylaxis for HIV infection (PrEP) non-adherence or discontinuation in Brazil and assess the association between these outcomes and HIV seroconversion. We used linked national dispensing and pathology data to identify people aged 14+ years initiating PrEP in 2018. We estimated non-adherence using the proportion of days covered (PDC), defining non-adherence as PDC < 60%.
