Disruption of Pseudomonas putida KT2440 by ultrasound treatment in a bath sonicator, in presence of the glass beads, was carried out for the release of arginine deiminase (ADI) and the results were compared with that of by Dyno-mill. The release of ADI depended mainly on the bead size and cellmass concentration being disrupted in bead mill. Nearly 23 U mL ADI was released when slurry with a cell-mass concentration of 250 g L was disintegrated for 9 min with 80% bead loading (0.25 mm) in Dyno-mill. Marginally higher amount of ADI (24.1 U mL ) was released by the bath sonication of 250 g L cellmass slurry for 30 min with the beads (0.1 mm) and a sonication power of 170 W. The glass beads, suspended along with the cellmass slurry in bath sonicator, efficiently disrupted the microbial cells to release ADI. Variation in the kinetic constants for the performance parameters implied that ADI release and cell disruption kinetics is a function of disruption technique used and the process variables thereof. Estimation of location factor suggested that selective release of ADI can be achieved. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Biotechnol. Introduction: This study sought to investigate the impact of the area deprivation index (ADI) on the treatment timeline from carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) to carpal tunnel release (CTR). We hypothesize that increased social deprivation will correlate with increased time between care milestones from presentation to surgery.

Methods: This is a retrospective review of patients diagnosed with CTS who underwent CTR at a single academic institution.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the impact of area deprivation index (ADI) on treatment timelines of patients with cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS). We hypothesize that increased social deprivation will correlate with increased time between care milestones from presentation to surgery.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients diagnosed with CuTS who underwent surgical intervention at a single academic institution.

Background: Poor infrastructure in deprived areas may hinder access to health care, and a lack of socioeconomic resources can prevent patients from remaining at home after discharge. This study sought to assess the association between the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and days at home within 90 days (DAH-90) after a complex operative procedure.

Methods: Patients who underwent an elective operation for a gastrointestinal cancer between 2016 and 2020 were identified from the Medicare Standard Analytic Files.

Steroid-responsive encephalopathy associated with autoimmune thyroiditis (SREAT) is a rare condition that can present with multiple neurological and psychiatric manifestations. SREAT diagnosis poses a challenge due to the nature of its nonspecific symptomatology and its overlap with numerous autoimmune, metabolic, infectious, and neuropsychiatric disorders. It is associated with elevated anti-thyroid antibodies, occurs in correspondence with autoimmune thyroiditis, and shows great response to corticosteroid treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective cohort study aimed to compare three socioeconomic status (SES) indexes and their association with outcomes after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) or lumbar fusion.
  • The study involved identifying adult patients who underwent these surgeries at a medical center from 2014 to 2020, analyzing their preoperative conditions and outcomes based on SES classifications derived from community-level indexes.
  • Results indicated that while patients from lower SES communities had worse preoperative outcomes, the community-wide SES indexes were ineffective in predicting surgical outcomes post-surgery.
