Parental competence is one of the essential components of raising ethical and healthy children. The mother's satisfaction with her maternal role significantly influences her cognitive responses and parenting behaviors. Having appropriate instruments to measure maternal satisfaction and identify and solve potential problems after childbirth can substantially contribute to maintaining and improving mother and infant health.

To understand the consequences of an invalidating environment, it is essential to have a measurement tool with appropriate statistical properties. Thus, the primary aim of this study was to render the ICES (Invalidating Childhood Environment Scale) into Persian and subsequently evaluate the psychometric attributes of this translated version. Data were collected from 1221 nonclinical participants, including 1053 females and 168 males, who were students at medical universities in Tehran, Iran.

Methods: Feasibility, internal consistency reliability, split-half reliability and construct validity were evaluated using a cross-sectional validation study ( = 1,058) in Classical Test Theory. Content validity was assessed by COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) criteria.
