Bone scans and skeletal x-rays of eight patients with systemic mastocytosis were reviewed. Mast cell infiltration of bone marrow had been proven histologically in every patient. Bone scan and roentgenographic findings are not specific for the disease and do not correlate well in some patients. A generalized increase of uptake was noted in two patients, a generalized decrease of skeletal activity with poor delineation of bony structures was observed in others. A circumscribed increase of activity was observed in some patients, only one patient had a normal bone scan. Roentgenographic examination revealed diffuse sclerosis of trabecular bone in three patients, osteoporosis with collapse of multiple vertebral bodies in three patients, and no abnormalities in two patients.

A Chain of Events Leading to Posttraumatic Subacute Meningitis.

Am J Forensic Med Pathol

County of Santa Clara, Medical Examiner-Coroner Office, San Jose, CA.

There are few reports that discuss the nebulous entity known as posttraumatic subacute meningitis. Herein, we describe a case where a male was found deceased with Streptococcus pyogenes meningitis 7 days after experiencing head trauma inflicted with a tow chain. Computed tomography scan prior to death revealed a scalp laceration with subcutaneous gas and a subdural hematoma.

The study aimed to analyze the long-term outcomes of [Lu]Lu-DOTAGA.FAPi dimer therapy in individuals diagnosed with radioiodine-resistant (RAI-R) follicular cell-derived thyroid cancer. In this retrospective study, 73 patients with RAI-R follicular thyroid carcinoma who had undergone multiple lines of previous treatments were included.

Accuracy of full arch scans performed with nine different scanning patterns- an in vitro study.

Clin Oral Investig

January 2025

Department of Prosthetic Dentistry, LMU University Hospital, LMU Munich, Goethestrasse 70, 80336, Munich, Germany.

Objective: Evaluation of the accuracy of direct digitization of maxillary scans depending on the scanning strategy.

Materials And Methods: A maxillary model with a metal bar as a reference structure fixed between the second molars was digitized using the CEREC Primescan AC scanner (N = 225 scans). Nine scanning strategies were selected (n = 25 scans per strategy), differing in scan area segmentation (F = full jaw, H = half jaw, S = sextant) and scan movement pattern (L = linear, Z = zig-zag, C = combined).

Changes in the shape of the lumbar curve during growth : a geometric morphometric approach.

Bone Joint Res

January 2025

Department of Anatomy and Anthropology, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Aims: The development of lumbar lordosis has been traditionally examined using angular measurements of the spine to reflect its shape. While studies agree regarding the increase in the angles during growth, the growth rate is understudied, and sexual dimorphism is debated. In this study, we used a novel method to estimate the shape of the lumbar curve (LC) using the landmark-based geometric morphometric method to explore changes in LC during growth, examine the effect of size and sex on LC shape, and examine the associations between angular measurements and shape.

Introduction: Human amniotic membrane (hAM) has a highly biocompatible natural scaffold that is abundant in several extracellular matrix (ECM) components, including but not limited to platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). In our study, we have focused on a mixture of hAM and demineralized bone matrix (DBM) as an allo-hybrid graft to deliver it into the site of bone defect to decrease bone remodeling time.

Methods: Allo-hybrid grafts were prepared by coating the jelly made of decellularized and lyophilized hAM (AMJ) on the surface of DBM and subsequently underwent in vitro studies, such as alkaline phosphatase activity, MTT assay, and SEM analysis.
