Objective: Leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube is a rare malignant gynecologic neoplasm with poor prognosis. It is important to share experience and to collect more cases to improve the understanding of the disease.

Case Report: We reported three patients with leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube who were treated in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (Shanghai, China) from 2012 to 2016. Although the three cases shared the same diagnosis, they varied in the presentations, treatments, and outcomes.

Conclusion: Leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube seems to have some particularities in imaging manifestations and immunohistochemical results. It has a progressive course with limited therapeutic options such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Giving birth after fertility-sparing treatment for primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube.

J Obstet Gynaecol Res

June 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Shanghai East Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube (PLFT) is an extremely rare gynecological malignancy that has only been described in case reports. Fertility-sparing treatment for PLFT has not been reported previously. A 24-year-old nulligravida woman was diagnosed with stage IC1 PLFT in the right fallopian tube after experiencing right lower quadrant pain for 2 weeks.

Introduction And Importance: The most frequent benign uterine tumor is uterine fibroids. Approximately, 20 to 30 % of women between the ages of 30 and 50 have them. Teenagers do, however, rarely experience them; the prevalence is less than 1 % in general population.

Retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma in a female patient with a germline splicing variant RAD51D c.904-2A > T: a case report.

Department of Clinical Genomic Medicine, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University, 2-5-1 Shikata-cho, Kita-ku, Okayama, 700-8551, Japan.

Background: RAD51D (RAD51 paralog D) is an intermediate cancer susceptibility gene for primary ovarian cancer, including fallopian tube and peritoneal carcinomas and breast cancer. Although gynecological non-epithelial tumors such as uterine sarcomas are associated with genomic instability, including BRCA impairment, there is no clear evidence of the relationship between RAD51D variants and the risk of sarcoma development.

Case Presentation: A Japanese woman in her 50s underwent multiple surgical resections and several regimens of chemotherapy for tumors that originated in the retroperitoneum and recurred in the peritoneum over a clinical course of approximately 4 years.

Differences in gynecologic tumor development in Amhr2-Cre mice with KRAS or KRAS mutations.

Sci Rep

Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine, Unit 1362, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77030, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how different variants of the KRAS gene affect tumor development and growth in a specific mouse model.
  • Researchers used Amhr2-Cre mice to express either the KRAS gene or KRAS mutations, leading to the creation of two distinct groups with different tumor outcomes: G12D resulted in ovarian carcinomas while G12V led to uterine tumors resembling leiomyoma.
  • The study identified specific cellular signaling pathways that varied between the two variants, which could help in developing targeted therapies for cancers associated with different KRAS mutations.

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube is a very rare neoplasm with descriptions limited to case reports. We present the case of a 46-yr-old woman with a history of renal transplantation in whom a primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube was identified incidentally following hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy undertaken for a uterine fibroid. The tumor demonstrated classic morphological and immunohistochemical features of a leiomyosarcoma.
