Antimicrobial resistance in is a global health problem. Enhanced international collaborative surveillance and disease control are needed to reduce the global burden of this important pathogen. Currently the antimicrobial resistance properties and molecular mechanisms of multidrug-resistant in the Republic of Georgia represent a significant knowledge gap. Here we report the isolation of a strain of exhibiting resistance to cefixime and ciprofloxacin with reduced susceptibility to penicillin and tetracycline from a patient being treated at a Georgian medical centre. Notably, this isolate was found to contain a mosaic allele and to harbour mutations in genes conferring susceptibility to the β-lactam, cephalosporin, fluoroquinolone, macrolide and penicillin classes of antibiotic. To our knowledge, this is the first report to describe the key mutations conferring the antimicrobial resistance properties of an isolate of from Georgia.

Bacterial infection in bone tissue engineering is a severe clinical issue. Traditional antimicrobial methods usually cause problems such as bacterial resistance and biosecurity. Employing semiconductor photocatalytic antibacterial materials is a more controlled and safer strategy, wherein semiconductor photocatalytic materials generate reactive oxygen species under illumination for killing bacteria by destroying their cell membranes, proteins, DNA, In this review, P-type and N-type semiconductor photocatalytic materials and their antibacterial mechanisms are introduced.

Background: Periodontitis is not always satisfactorily treated with conventional scaling and root planing, and adjunctive use of antibiotics is required in clinical practice. Therefore, it is important for clinicians to understand the diversity and the antibiotic resistance of subgingival microbiota when exposed to different antibiotics.
Materials And Methods: In this study, subgingival plaques were collected from 10 periodontitis patients and 11 periodontally healthy volunteers, and their microbiota response to selective pressure of four antibiotics (amoxicillin, metronidazole, clindamycin, and tetracycline) were evaluated through 16S rRNA gene amplicon and metagenomic sequencing analysis.

Background: PROTECT ( Platform Randomised evaluation of clinical Outcomes using novel TEChnologies to optimise antimicrobial Therapy) has brought together a team of researchers to design a platform trial to rapidly evaluate and adopt into care multiple diagnostic technologies, bringing immediate benefit to patients. Rapid diagnostic tests will be used to identify patients at risk of deterioration from severe infection, before they become critically unwell. The platform will assess their comparative clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness relative to current standard of care.
