At present, no high temperature experiments on phase change are reported. In this study, we have measured the Raman bands ν(CH), ν(CH), ν(CH), and ν(CH) of n-hexane in a hydrothermal diamond cell up to 588 K. We determined that the liquid-solid phase transition pressure of n-hexane is 1.17 GPa, and we also gave a number of high temperatures and pressures data on phase change which are not reported previously. In addition, we defined the solidus of n-hexane which can be represented by the equation P = 8.581T-1550.16, and the relation dP/dT = 8.581 which can be used to calculate the thermodynamic parameters for n-hexane in the liquid-solid phase transition. For all we know, the above two equations are presented here for the first time. Furthermore, it is the first report here in a graphic way on high-temperature phase change in n-hexane, and it is also the first to be shown in the 3-D figure.

Circadian Misalignment Impacts Cardiac Autonomic Modulation in Adolescence.

Sleep

January 2025

Sleep Research & Treatment Center, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, Penn State University, College of Medicine, Hershey PA, USA.

Study Objectives: Although heart rate variability (HRV), a marker of cardiac autonomic modulation (CAM), is known to predict cardiovascular morbidity, the circadian timing of sleep (CTS) is also involved in autonomic modulation. We examined whether circadian misalignment is associated with blunted HRV in adolescents as a function of entrainment to school or on-breaks.

Methods: We evaluated 360 subjects from the Penn State Child Cohort (median 16y) who had at least 3-night at-home actigraphy (ACT), in-lab 9-h polysomnography (PSG) and 24-h Holter-monitoring heart rate variability (HRV) data.

Background: Celiac disease (CeD) has shown an association with autoimmune disorders including vitiligo and alopecia areata (AA). Ritlecitinib, a JAK3 and TEC kinase family inhibitor, has been approved for treatment of patients with AA and is in late-stage development for vitiligo. Ritlecitinib inhibits cytotoxic T cells, NK cells, and B cells which play a role in the pathogenesis of CeD.

Breast cancer patients experience more severe emotional distress and depression compared to those with other cancers. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), like citalopram, are commonly used to treat depression. However, the link between SSRI use and breast cancer progression is debated.

Background: Effects of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on neuropsychiatric symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) remain debated. Sensor technology might help to objectively assess behavioural changes after STN-DBS.

Case Presentation: 5 PD patients were assessed 1 before and 5 months after STN-DBS with the Movement Disorders Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale part III in the medication ON (plus postoperatively stimulation ON) condition, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Behaviors in Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale present version, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Starkstein Apathy Scale.

Dispersal is an important life history trait that plays a key role in the demography and evolution of species. We employed a combined approach of DNA sequencing and transmission electron microscopy to examine the changes in the microbiome during the ontogeny and dispersal of the coral-excavating sponge Thoosa mismalolli. The results show that sponge can acquired their associated bacteria via both vertical (VT) and horizontal transmission (HT).
