Published: July 2018

We present a phenomenological analysis of the magnetoelastic properties of CeCoFeSi at temperatures close to the Néel transition temperature T . Using a Landau functional we provide a qualitative description of the thermal expansion, magnetostriction, magnetization and specific heat data. We show that the available experimental results (Correa et al 2016 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 28 346003) are consistent with the presence of a structural transition at [Formula: see text] and a strong magnetoelastic coupling. The magnetoelastic coupling presents a Janus-faced effect: while the structural transition is shifted to higher temperatures as the magnetic field is increased, the resulting striction at low temperatures decreases. The strong magnetoelastic coupling and the proximity of the structural transition to the onset temperature for magnetic fluctuations, suggest that the transition could be an analogue of the tetragonal to orthorhombic observed in Fe-based pcnictides.

Radical covalent organic frameworks (RCOFs) have demonstrated significant potential in redox catalysis and energy conversion applications. However, the synthesis of stable RCOFs with well-defined neutral carbon radical centers is challenging due to the inherent radical instability, limited synthetic methods and characterization difficulties. Building upon the understanding of stable carbon radicals and structural modulations for preparing crystalline COFs, herein we report the synthesis of a crystalline carbon-centered RCOF through a facile post-oxidation process.

Lipid nanoparticles formed with copolymers are a new and increasingly powerful tool for studying membrane proteins, but the extent to which these systems affect the physical properties of the membrane is not completely understood. This is critical to understanding the caveats of these new systems and screening for structural and functional artifacts that might be caused in the membrane proteins they are used to study. To better understand these potential effects, the fluid properties of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine lipid bilayers were examined by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy with spin-labeled reporter lipids in either liposomes or incorporated into nanoparticles with the copolymers diisobutylene-maleic acid or styrene maleic acid.

This study aims to shed light on the mechanism and kinetics of 1,4-dioxane degradation by hydroxyl radical (OH) across various solvation conditions to evaluate electronic and structural properties at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level. Transition states (TS) structures determined in the gas phase and SMD solvation model reveal similar hydrogen abstraction patterns. In contrast, the explicit solvation model (ES) introduces significant changes, suggesting a kinetic preference for axial pathways.

Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Road Structural Defects Using GPR Investigation and Back-Projection Algorithm.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Roadway Engineering, School of Transportation, Southeast University, Nanjing 211189, China.

Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) has demonstrated significant advantages in the non-destructive detection of road structural defects due to its speed, safety, and efficiency. This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction method for GPR images, integrating the back-projection (BP) imaging algorithm to accurately determine the size, location, and other parameters of road structural defects. Initially, GPR detection images were preprocessed, including direct wave removal and wavelet denoising, followed by the application of the BP algorithm to effectively restore the defect's location and size.

December 2024

Food Technology and Innovation Research Center of Excellence, School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry, Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat 80160, Thailand.

Genetic differences typically cause differences in the structure and function of proteins in meat. The objective of this research was to examine the biochemical characteristics and functional behavior of proteins in fresh composite meat from Thai Ligor hybrid chicken (LC) and commercial broiler chicken (BC). The composite meat samples, which comprise minced breast and thigh without skin from 20 chicken carcasses in a 1:1 (/) ratio, were randomly selected for analysis using the completely randomized design (CRD).
