Surprising features in a recently published high-level calculation of the rotational profile of butadiene led us to compare butadiene with a set of 17 heterodienes. The rotational profiles for this large group of compounds varied widely, thereby possessing a high information content. These data were subjected to a Fourier analysis yielding 1- through 6-fold terms: the one-fold terms represent the change in steric energy on going from 180° to 0°, while the changes in the 2-fold terms correspond to the expected change in π-delocalization energy with structure; the 3-fold terms were significant and found to be linearly correlated to the average of the atomic charges of the atoms at the central single bond of the cis-forms, but their origins are still not clear; we propose a novel 1,4 π-interactions that may account for this phenomenon. The 4-fold terms were at times comparable in magnitude to the 3-fold terms but overall appeared to mainly modify the 3-fold terms slightly without introducing any qualitatively new features. The 5- and 6-fold terms were negligible.

MCM-41, a mesoporous material with a high surface area and tunable pore size, shows great potential for water vapor adsorption. However, due to its large pore size, the effective adsorption capacity at medium to low relative partial pressures is limited in adsorption chiller applications. In this work, MCM-41 was successfully synthesized at room temperature using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a templating agent.

Dynamic therapies such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) and sonodynamic therapy (SDT) have potential in cancer treatment. Microalgae have attracted increasing attention because of their high active mobility, flexibility in terms of functionality, and good biocompatibility. In this study, surface-engineered microalgae Chlorella vulgaris (Chl) modified with metal‒organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles (denoted Chl-MOF) are successfully developed for synergistic photo-sonodynamic therapy and immunotherapy.

Background: The global prevalence of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease is dramatically increasing with the diffusion of cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs). The aim of the present study was to assess the natural course of liver cirrhosis, in terms of decompensation, development of hepatocellular carcinoma and mortality, in relation to the presence of CMRFs (type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, arterial hypertension, low HDL levels, hypertriglyceridemia).
Patients: 667 patients with liver cirrhosis (50 with CMRFs and without non-metabolic aetiological factors, 167 with non-metabolic aetiological factors and without CMRFs, and 450 with both non-metabolic aetiological factors and at least one CMRF) followed at the University and General Hospital of Padua, Italy, from 1998 to 2022, were included.

An extensive study was undertaken using the petals of cornflower (Centaurea cyanus (Cyani flos)) flowers in yogurt production as a source of dietary fiber and antioxidant compounds, and as a natural dye, taking into account a 21-d refrigerated storage period. An additional aim of the study was to use cornflower petals in natural form rather than an extract. Four forms of cornflower petals: fresh, dried, frozen, and freeze-dried, were tested.
