Ten cases using decellularized allografts and xenografts for the purpose of resurfacing the first metatarsal head are reviewed in this article. Although most of the cases were performed without any postoperative complications, the focus of this series is on 2 of the 3 cases in which destruction of the first metatarsal head was observed postoperatively due to a foreign body reaction and severe degeneration within the metatarsal head. A salvage procedure using a silicone total joint to replace the damaged surface is shown. The role of cystic changes present preoperatively, and its role in subsequent failure is examined.

Background: Muscle fatigue, characterized by reduced force generation during repetitive contractions, impacts older adults doing daily activities and athletes during sports activities. While various sensors detect muscle fatigue via muscle activity, biochemical markers, and kinematic parameters, a real-time wearable solution with high usability remains limited. Plantar pressure monitoring detects muscle fatigue through foot loading changes, seamlessly integrating into footwear to improve the usability and compliance for home-based monitoring.

Diabetes-related foot osteomyelitis (DFO) can present as an acute condition with soft tissue involvement or as a non-acute form characterized by long-standing ulcers without immediate limb-threatening features. This study evaluates infection relapse and healing times after conservative surgery in non-acute DFO, with a focus on osteomyelitis localization. A retrospective cohort of 60 patients treated for forefoot DFO without soft tissue involvement or necrosis was analyzed.

Hard-to-heal wounds represent a global and growing medical and economic burden. Skin autografting is a useful treatment option but is often limited by donor site morbidity, logistical considerations, and grafting success in compromised wound beds. Combining autologous skin cell suspension (ASCS) technology with minced dermal grafts can allow for dermal elements and epithelial healing as well as closed donor sites.

Background: Hallux valgus (HV) is a multiplanar deformity and surgical treatment is often guided by two-dimensional radiographic parameters. This study assessed the reliability and accuracy of the AIR classification(The first metatarsal head's lateral edge can be delineated as angular (type A), round (type R), or intermediate (type I) through visual inspection or circle measurements on weight-bearing radiographs.)commonly used in clinical settings to categorize the shape of the lateral edge of the first metatarsal head, against measurements from weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT).
