Neuroencorine Tumor Arising within a Tailgut Cyst in an Adolescent Boy.

Fetal Pediatr Pathol

Published: August 2018

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) within tailgut cysts (TC) are usually seen in middle-aged females. A 14 year-old boy who underwent surgical excision of NET within TC is presented to discuss the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment options.

Case Report: A 14-year-old boy with rectal bleeding and constipation had a 5 × 4 cm mass detected upon rectal examination. The cystic mass was totally excised. The histopathological evaluation revealed a low-grade NET within mucularis layer of the cyst showing a positive immunhistochemical staining for cytokeratin and synaptophysin.

Conclusion: Although, the malignant transition of TC is commonly observed in middle age females, males and children can also be affected. This is first report of a pediatric TC with malignant transformation. Total surgical excision of cysts is mandatory for local control of the disease and chemotherapy should be reserved for the patients who have positive surgical margins.

Background: Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a distinct subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) and accounts for 2% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Its typical characteristics include an aggressive course, progressive lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, systemic symptoms, anemia, hypergammaglobulinemia, and generally poor prognosis.

Methods: We describe a rare case in which the left inguinal lymph node was completely excised and biopsied one year ago.

SUMMARYSporotrichosis is a subacute-to-chronic infection endemic to tropical and subtropical regions. It usually involves subcutaneous tissue but can occasionally cause extracutaneous infections, especially in hyperendemic areas. Extracutaneous infections are classified based on the anatomic location of the lesion and the route of infection (primary or multifocal).

Breast-conserving surgery accompanied by adjuvant radiotherapy is the standard of care for patients with early-stage breast cancer. However, re-excision is reported in 20-30 % of cases, largely because of close or involved tumor margins in the specimen. Several intraoperative tumor margin assessment techniques have been proposed to overcome this issue, however, none have been widely adopted.

Pleomorphic adenoma of the parapharyngeal space.

Radiol Case Rep

Radiology Department -University Hospital of 20 Aout 1953 - Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Casablanca, Hassan II University, Casablanca, Morocco.

Pleomorphic adenoma of the parapharyngeal space is a rare benign tumor, representing less than 1% of tumors of the parapharyngeal space. Considering the volume of the tumor, the complexity of the space and the potential difficulties of excision, an imaging work-up including at least computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and possibly analysis of the vascular axes (angio-MRI, arteriography) is essential. Treatment of these tumors is essentially surgical.

Introduction: A positive surgical margin (R1 resection) is a relevant risk factor for local recurrence in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas (PDAC). An intraoperative liquid biopsy (ILB) based on tumor cell mobilization could help to detect R1 resection intraoperatively.

Objective: To evaluate the potential role of the intraoperative circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cluster mobilization on the R0/R1 detection.
