Structured Dynamics in the Algorithmic Agent.

Entropy (Basel)

January 2025

Computational Neuroscience Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, 08005 Barcelona, Spain.

In the Kolmogorov Theory of Consciousness, algorithmic agents utilize inferred compressive models to track coarse-grained data produced by simplified world models, capturing regularities that structure subjective experience and guide action planning. Here, we study the dynamical aspects of this framework by examining how the requirement of tracking natural data drives the structural and dynamical properties of the agent. We first formalize the notion of a using the language of symmetry from group theory, specifically employing Lie pseudogroups to describe the continuous transformations that characterize invariance in natural data.

Mood variation under dual regulation of circadian clock and light.

Chronobiol Int

January 2025

Laboratory of Braintime, Graduate Institute of Mind, Brain and Consciousness (GIMBC), Taipei Medical University, Taipei, Taiwan.

The intricate relationship between circadian rhythms and mood is well-established. Disturbances in circadian rhythms and sleep often precede the development of mood disorders, such as major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD), and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Two primary factors, intrinsic circadian clocks and light, drive the natural fluctuations in mood throughout the day, mirroring the patterns of sleepiness and wakefulness.

Despite the growing cognizance of Generation Z (Gen Z) fashion consumers about the externalities of fast fashion, an attitude-behaviour gap persists in their willingness to pay for sustainable fashion. This study uses dual-processing theory to examine how nudging communications in online fashion retail influence Gen Z's sustainable fashion choices and willingness to pay. It also explores how Gen Z's fashion-related knowledge and involvement and ecological consciousness moderate the effects of nudging.

Introduction: A large number of middle-aged and elderly patients have an insufficient understanding of osteoporosis and its harm. This study aimed to establish and validate a convolutional neural network (CNN) model based on unenhanced chest computed tomography (CT) images of the vertebral body and skeletal muscle for opportunistic screening in patients with osteoporosis.

Materials And Methods: Our team retrospectively collected clinical information from participants who underwent unenhanced chest CT and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) examinations between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, at four hospitals.

Flow and intuition: a systems neuroscience comparison.

Neurosci Conscious

January 2025

VERSES AI Research Lab, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

This paper explores the relationship between intuition and flow from a neurodynamics perspective. Flow and intuition represent two cognitive phenomena rooted in nonconscious information processing; however, there are clear differences in both their phenomenal characteristics and, more broadly, their contribution to action and cognition. We propose, extrapolating from dual processing theory, that intuition serves as a rapid, nonconscious decision-making process, while flow facilitates this process in action, achieving optimal cognitive control and performance without [conscious] deliberation.
