Children hospitalised for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) have a high risk of mortality, relapse and rehospitalisation following hospital discharge. Current approaches fail to promote convalescence, or to address the underlying social determinants of SAM, meaning that restoration of long-term health, growth and neurodevelopment is not achieved. Although guidelines recommend play and stimulation to promote recovery, most caregivers are not supported to do this at home.

We investigated the relationship between three nutritional indicators, the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF), Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and Controlling Nutrition Status (CONUT), and physical activity at discharge in patients admitted to convalescent rehabilitation wards. The study included 1601 patients (77 ± 12 years, male 46.2%) discharged from convalescent rehabilitation wards between April 2018 and September 2023.

The efficacy of cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) in patients with vascular cognitive impairment has not been explored, and no studies investigating CST in the convalescent rehabilitation phase have been reported. This study examined the effect of CST on the cognitive function of patients with vascular cognitive impairment. A randomized controlled, assessor-blinded, single-centered trial with two parallel groups was conducted in a convalescent rehabilitation hospital.

Objective: To describe the process whereby the screening of racing Thoroughbreds with accelerometer-based inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors followed by clinical evaluation and advanced imaging identified potentially catastrophic musculoskeletal injuries in 3 horses.
Animals: 3 Thoroughbred racehorses.
Clinical Presentation: All cases demonstrated an abnormal stride pattern either during racing (cases 1 and 2) or while breezing (case 3) and were identified as being at very high risk of catastrophic musculoskeletal injury by an algorithm derived from IMU sensor files from > 20,000 horses' race starts.
