Biofilms are of vital significance in bioconversion and biotechnological processes. In this work, sugarcane molasses was used to enhance biofilms for the improvement of the production of fumigaclavine C (FC), a conidiation-associated ergot alkaloid with strong anti-inflammatory activities. Biofilm formation was more greatly induced by the addition of molasses than the addition of other reported biofilm inducers. With the optimal molasses concentration (400 g/l), the biofilm biomass was 6-fold higher than that with sucrose, and FC and conidia production was increased by 5.8- and 3.1-fold, respectively. Moreover, the global secondary metabolism regulatory gene , FC biosynthetic gene , and asexual central regulatory genes and were upregulated in molasses-based biofilms, suggesting the upregulation of both asexual development and FC biosynthesis. This study provides novel insight into the stimulatory effects of molasses on biofilm formation and supports the widespread application of molasses as an inexpensive raw material and effective inducer for biofilm production.

Acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF) are the leading cause of mortality among patients with IPF. There is still a lack of effective treatments for AE-IPF, resulting in a hospitalization mortality rate as high as 70%-80%. To reveal the complicated mechanism of AE-IPF, more attention has been paid to its disturbed immune environment, as patients with IPF exhibit deficiencies in pathogen defense due to local immune dysregulation.

Introduction: T cell Antigen Coupler (TAC) T cells harness all signaling subunits of endogenous T cell receptor (TCR) to trigger T-cell activation and tumor cell lysis, with minimal release of cytokines. Some of the major obstacles to cellular immunotherapy in solid tumors include inefficient cell infiltration into tumors, lack of prolonged cellular persistence, and therapy-associated toxicity.
Methods: To boost the cytotoxic potential of TAC-T cells against solid tumors, we generated a novel NECTIN-4-targeted TAC-T variant, NECTIN-4 TAC28-T, which integrated the co-stimulatory CD28 cytoplasmic region, and compared the anti-tumor activities between NECTIN-4 TAC-T cells and NECTIN-4 TAC28-T cells in vitro and vivo.

Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps are efficient elicitors of secondary metabolites. To investigate the influence of LED light on steviol glycosides (SGs) and phenolic compounds biosynthesis, stevia shoots were cultured under the following LED lights: white-WL, blue-B, red-R, 70% red and 30% blue-RB, 50% UV, 35% red and 15% blue-RBUV, 50% green, 35% red and 15% blue-RBG, 50% yellow, 35% red and 15% blue-RBY, 50% far-red, 35% red and 15% blue-RBFR and white fluorescent light (WFl, control). RBG light stimulated shoots' biomass production.

Background: Activin A, a noteworthy member of the TGF-β superfamily. Activin A can regulate the biological functions of various immune cells, such as macrophages, neutrophils, NK cells, etc. The purpose of this study is to investigate the regulatory effect and related mechanisms of activin A on CD8 T cells.

Peatlands are invaluable but threatened ecosystems that store huge amounts of organic carbon globally and emit the greenhouse gasses carbon dioxide (CO) and methane (CH). Trophic interactions of microbial groups essential for methanogenesis are poorly understood in such systems, despite their importance. Thus, the present study aimed at unraveling trophic interactions between fermenters and methanogens in a nitrogen-limited, subarctic, pH-neutral fen.
