Straw mulching has been used to improve water use efficiency (WUE, yield per unit evapotranspiration) in the Loess Plateau of China, but the seeding rate may need to be adjusted from conventional practice. We tested the three-way interaction between seeding rate, soil management (conventional tillage and straw mulching) and seasons. Wheat yield ranged from 2851 to 6981 kg ha and WUE from 5.3 to 16.2 kg ha mm. Generally, soil water storage was higher and soil temperature was lower under straw mulching than under conventional practice. Evapotranspiration was higher under straw mulching. Yield was significantly affected by the interaction between straw mulching and season. Conventional practice showed significantly higher mean harvest index (HI), yield, and WUE than straw mulching in favorable seasons. However, yield was significantly higher under mulching than under conventional tillage in very dry season. Seeding rate had no effect on yield, but low seeding rate increased HI compared to high seeding rate. It is concluded that low seeding rate would be suitable for straw mulching.

The α-synuclein seed amplification assay (αSyn-SAA) sensitively detects Lewy pathology, the amyloid state of α-synuclein, in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The αSyn-SAA harnesses the physics of seeding, whereby a superconcentrated solution of recombinant α-synuclein lowers the thermodynamic threshold (nucleation barrier) for aggregated α-synuclein to act as a nucleation catalyst ("seed") to trigger the precipitation (nucleation) of monomeric α-synuclein into pathology. This laboratory setup increases the signal for identifying a catalyst if one is present in the tissue examined.

In South Asia, declining water tables due to increased irrigation and labor shortages for manual weeding pose significant challenges for wheat production. Additionally, herbicide resistance, often resulting from poor management practices, further complicates weed problems. The objective of this study was to assess the impacts of traditional irrigation regimens (IRs) and herbicide application on wheat crops.

This study introduces a sustainable biological approach for synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Conocarpus seeds, aimed at improving the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) in wastewater treatment. The photocatalytic efficiency of AgNPs, synthesized under varying concentrations of silver nitrate (AgNO) and pH levels, was evaluated, together with the effectiveness of a photocatalytic reactor. The synthesized samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Purpose: To retrospectively evaluate the efficacy of plaque brachytherapy for the treatment of retinoblastoma.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 163 patients (186 eyes, 333 tumors) treated with brachytherapy (Ru or Sr plaques) for intraocular retinoblastoma between November 2007 and August 2023.
Results: Complete tumor control was achieved in 273 tumors (82%).

The purpose was to explore the spatial centrality of the whole brain functional network related to migraine and to investigate the potential functional hubs associated with migraine. 32 migraine patients and 55 healthy controls were recruited and they received resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging voluntarily. Voxel-wise Degree Centrality (DC) was measured across the whole brain, and group differences in DC were compared.
