We examine properties of an ultrashort laser pulse propagating through an artificial Saturable Absorber based on Nonlinear Polarization Evolution device which has been realized with Polarization Maintaining fibers only (PM NPE). We study and compare in-line and Faraday Mirror geometries showing that the latter is immune to errors in the PM NPE construction. Experimental results for the transmission measurements of the PM NPE setup for different input linear polarization angles and various input pulse powers are presented. We show that PM NPE topology is of crucial importance for controlling the properties of the output pulse as it rules the contribution of cross-phase modulation to an overall nonlinear phase change. We also demonstrate an excellent agreement between the numerical model and experimental results.

The pervasive model for a solvated, ion-filled nanopore is often a resistor in parallel with a capacitor. For conical nanopore geometries, here we propose the inclusion of a Warburg-like element, which is necessary to explain otherwise anomalous observations such as negative capacitance and low-pass filtering of translocation events (we term this phenomenon as Warburg filtering). The negative capacitance observed here has long equilibration times and memory (that is, mem-capacitance) at negative voltages.

The controllable synthesis of epitaxial nanopillar arrays is fundamentally important to the development of advanced electrical and optical devices. However, this fascinating growth method has rarely been applied to the bottom-up synthesis of plasmonic nanostructure arrays (PNAs) with many broad, important, and promising applications in optical sensing, nonlinear optics, surface-enhanced spectroscopies, photothermal conversion, photochemistry, etc. Here, a one-step epitaxial approach to single-crystalline NbTiN (NbTiN) nanopillar arrays based on the layer plus island growth mode is demonstrated by strain engineering.

College of Optical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang A&F University, Lin'an 311300, China.

As a member of the chalcogenide family, NiSe exhibits a direct bandgap of 1.74 eV, making it a promising candidate for nonlinear optical devices. However, its potential in the near-infrared region of the telecommunication band has not been fully explored.

Non-reciprocal optical components are indispensable in optical applications, and their realization without any magnetic field has attracted increasing research interest in photonics. Exciting experimental progress has been achieved by either introducing spatial-temporal modulation of the optical medium or combining Kerr-type optical nonlinearity with spatial asymmetry in photonic structures. However, extra driving fields are required for the first approach, while the isolation of noise and the transmission of the signal cannot be simultaneously achieved for the other approach.

Giant Photogalvanic Effect-Induced Terahertz Wave Emission in Wafer-Scale Type-II Dirac Semimetal PtTe.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Terahertz (THz) emission arising from the second-order nonlinear photocurrent effects in two-dimensional quantum materials has attracted significant attention due to its high efficiency and ease of polarization manipulation. However, in centrosymmetric quantum materials, the terahertz emission is typically suppressed, caused by the directional symmetry of the photocurrent generated under femtosecond laser excitation. In this work, we report that wafer-scale type-II Dirac semimetal PtTe with lattice centrosymmetry exhibits remarkably high THz emission efficiency (2 orders of magnitude greater than that of a ZnTe nonlinear crystal with equivalent thickness) and pronounced polarization sensitivity at room temperature.
