Aim: The aim of this study was to research the effect of TGF-β2 on human enon capsule fibroblasts proliferation and apoptosis and its potential mechanism.

Methods: Human eyeball fascia tissues (n = 45) were derived from ocular fascia tissues of patients who were underwent glaucoma filtration surgery, and Tenon capsule fibroblasts were obtained from these tissues. Liposome-mediated transfection, CCK8 assay, Hoechst33258 staining, qRT-PCR detection, western blot, and luciferase reporter assay were performed.

Results: TGF-β2 promoted proliferation and inhibited apoptosis of human Tenon capsule fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner. TGF-β2 induced down-regulation of miR-26 and up-regulation of CTGF in a dose-dependent manner. CTGF was the target gene of miR-26 and miR-26 had a negative regulatory effect on CTGF expression. miR-26 up-regulation could significantly decrease proliferation and increase apoptosis of human Tenon capsule fibroblasts after induced by TGF-β2 (P < 0.05). Down-regulation of CTGF could markly decrease proliferation and increase apoptosis of human Tenon capsule fibroblasts after induced by TGF-β2 (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: miR-26 could inhibit proliferation and promote apoptosis of human Tenon capsule fibroblasts after they were induced by TGF-β2 through suppressing CTGF expression.

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS) is an age-related fibrillopathy where fibrillar exfoliation material accumulates and deposits in ocular and extra-ocular tissue. Within the eye, this substance accumulates on the ocular surface and in the anterior segment of the eye, impacting ocular structures such as the conjunctiva, Tenon's capsule, sclera, cornea, iris, ciliary body, trabecular meshwork, and lens. This review aims to collate the current literature on how each anatomical part of the eye is affected by PXS, with a strong focus on molecular changes.

Curcuminoid absorption can be influenced by the presence of additional compounds, but there has been no study investigating this in a robust manner. The aim of this clinical trial was to assess the effect of the type of food matrix on the absorption of curcuminoids from a highly bioavailable turmeric formulation. Participants consumed the turmeric formulation in the form of capsules, a ready-to-drink fruit nectar, a sports nutrition bar, a dairy analogue (oat milk), pectin gummies, and a probiotic drink in a randomized, crossover study.

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of enucleation without conjunctival closure in a large patient cohort.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted from January 2011 to January 2024, examining 144 eyes of 143 patients who underwent enucleation without conjunctival closure by a single oculoplastic surgeon. Data collected included patient demographics, indications for surgery, implant types, and complications.

We describe a novel technique for recurrent pterygium and assess the advantage of properties of extended tenonectomy, amniotic membrane transplantation, and limbal epithelial transplantation in terms of recurrence rate, postoperative symptoms, postoperative orthoptics, and other complications. A total of nine eyes with recurrent pterygium underwent PERMISLET, i.e.

Article Synopsis
  • Exfoliation Syndrome (XFS) is an age-related condition affecting the eye, leading to the accumulation of fibrillar materials that can cause Exfoliation Glaucoma (XFG), a form of secondary open-angle glaucoma.
  • XFG is linked to neurodegenerative disease features and characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction, including impaired energy production and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) in affected cells.
  • Research shows that treating XFG patient-derived cells with agents like Urolithin A and Nicotinamide Ribose can help improve mitochondrial function and reduce ROS, suggesting a potential therapeutic approach for XFG.
