Visibility, Physical Work Environment, and Stress in ICU Nurses.

J Nurs Adm

December 2024

Author Affiliations: Research Associate (Dr Keys), The Center for Health Design, Concord, California; National Senior Director (Dr Fineout-Overholt), Evidence-Based Practice and Implementation Science, at Ascension in St. Louis, MO.

Objective: Relationships among coworker and patient visibility, reactions to physical work environment, and work stress in ICU nurses are explored.

Background: Millions of dollars are invested annually in the building or remodeling of ICUs, yet there is a gap in understanding relationships between the physical layout of nursing units and work stress.

Methods: Using a cross-sectional, correlational, exploratory, predictive design, relationships among variables were studied in a diverse sample of ICU nurses.

This article describes F-IVM, a unified approach for maintaining analytics over changing relational data. We exemplify its versatility in four disciplines: processing queries with group-by aggregates and joins; learning linear regression models using the covariance matrix of the input features; building Chow-Liu trees using pairwise mutual information of the input features; and matrix chain multiplication. F-IVM has three main ingredients: higher-order incremental view maintenance; factorized computation; and ring abstraction.

Two new janiroid isopod species, and , are described from the Kuwaiti waters, representing the first record of the genera in the western Indian Ocean. is distinguished from its congeners by pereonites 2-7 with a pair of short single lateral spine-like processes; the relatively short length of the anterior part of its pleotelson, which accounts for about 0.1 of the total length of the pleotelson; and the stylet with an elongate, downwardly curved, and distally pointed apex.

Kalman contrastive unsupervised representation learning.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Computer Science, Stanford University, 353 Jane Stanford Way, Stanford, CA, 94305, USA.

We first propose a Kalman contrastive (KalCo) framework for unsupervised representation learning by dictionary lookup. It builds a dynamic dictionary of encoded representation keys with a queue and a Kalman filter encoder, to which the encoded queries are matched. The large and consistent dictionaries built this way increase the accuracy of KalCo to values much higher than those of the famous momentum contrastive (MoCo) unsupervised learning, which is actually a very simplified version of KalCo with only a fixed scaler momentum coefficient.

An accessibility monitoring or audit of an environment provides information at a given point in time (static view of accessibility). But accessibility, to be really effective, must be maintained over time. Therefore, it must be considered throughout all phases of the design process (different phases of the project) and construction (different phases of the work).
