Introduction: The aim of this research was to explore factors influencing students at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Bachelor of Medical Imaging Science (BMIS) choice to pursue rural radiography careers.

Methods: A survey and focus groups of BMIS students at the UPNG were undertaken. The survey included questions related to sociodemographic variables including gender, age, education, rural background and previous employment; and Likert-type scale questions exploring motivation for rural practice, the promotion of radiography through rural practice and the influence of birthplace and incentives to practice.

Preserving the value of legacy film-based teaching files in pediatric radiology.

Senior pediatric radiologists who have spent a major portion of their careers interpreting conventional film-screen radiographic studies have collected a wealth of hard-copy teaching material that is at risk of becoming obsolete. The teaching value and usefulness of analog film teaching files can be preserved using available hardware and standard software. The final product can be made available in a high-quality digital format to students, trainees and faculty without complicated search-and-retrieval methodology.

This method comparison study used radiographs of 20 mice and 20 budgerigars to investigate comparability between computed radiography (CR) and high-resolution screen-film systems and study the effects of reduced radiation doses on image quality of digital radiographs of small patients. Exposure settings used with the mammography screen-film system (SF) were taken as baseline settings. A powder-based storage-phosphor system (CR) and a needle-based storage-phosphor system (CR) were used with the same settings (D/100%) and half the detector dose (D/50%).

New approaches to antimony film screen-printed electrodes using carbon-based nanomaterials substrates.

Three different commercial carbon nanomaterial-modified screen-printed electrodes based on graphene, carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers were pioneeringly tested as electrode platforms for the plating with Sb film. They were microscopically and analytically compared to each other and to the most conventional unmodified carbon screen-printed electrode (SPCE). The obtained detection and quantification limits suggest that the in-situ antimony film electrode prepared from carbon nanofibers modified screen-printed electrode (SbSPCE-CNF) produces a better analytical performance as compared to the classical SPCE modified with antimony for Pb(II) and Cd(II) determination, approving its appropriateness for measuring low μg L(-1) levels of the considered metals.
