Introduction: Compared to laparotomy, laparoscopy has many benefits for patients, such as shorter recovery and lower morbidity rates. Port site metastases after laparoscopic approach in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies are uncommon. The purpose of this review is to identify and summarize possible risk factors for port-site metastases in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery in the ambit of gynecologic oncology.

Discussion: The precise incidence of port-site metastases is not well known because many patients are not followed-up during the whole postoperative period. Possible risk factors that can increase the risk of port-site metastases can be the presence of large masses in the abdomen, especially in the presence of concomitant ascites and in patients treated for ovarian carcinomas. Different theories have been postulated in order to explain the development of port site metastases during laparoscopy for oncological patients.

Conclusions: Patient selection is an essential factor that can influence the incidence of port site metastases in gynecological patients. Robust data regarding port site metastases in gynecologic oncology are needed.

Background: Adult-type granulosa cell tumors are a rare form of ovarian cancer, 30% of which will recur. Cytoreductive surgery is often performed at the time of a first recurrence, but little is known about the impact of open versus minimally invasive surgical approaches on survival outcomes.

Objective: To examine associations between surgical approach, clinical variables, and survival outcomes among patients with adult-type granulosa cell tumors who underwent cytoreductive surgery at the time of first recurrence.

The maritime transport sector poses significant air quality concerns, particularly in nearby cities. Ultrafine particles (UFP, diameter < 100 nm) are of particular concern due to their potential health impacts. This study measured particle number concentrations (PNC), size distributions (PNSD), and other pollutants including particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NO), black carbon (BC), sulfur dioxide (SO) and ozone (O), organic markers and trace elements at a major European harbor and an urban background (UB) location.

Large-scale and long-term wildlife research and monitoring using camera traps: a continental synthesis.

Wildlife Observatory of Australia (WildObs), Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF), Brisbane, Queensland, 4072, Australia.

Camera traps are widely used in wildlife research and monitoring, so it is imperative to understand their strengths, limitations, and potential for increasing impact. We investigated a decade of use of wildlife cameras (2012-2022) with a case study on Australian terrestrial vertebrates using a multifaceted approach. We (i) synthesised information from a literature review; (ii) conducted an online questionnaire of 132 professionals; (iii) hosted an in-person workshop of 28 leading experts representing academia, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and government; and (iv) mapped camera trap usage based on all sources.

Background: Appendicectomy is a common procedure in children. Regional anaesthesia helps reduce requirements for opioids and hospital stay and enhances recovery. Laparoscopic-assisted Transversus Abdominus Plane block (L-TAP) was shown to be efficient and potentially superior to port site infiltration (PSI); however, this was not previously studied in paediatric appendicitis.
