A novel 2D lanthanide coordination polymer {Eu-CP (1)} based on a 3-bis(3-carboxyphenyl)imidazolium (L) ligand was successfully assembled through a solvothermal method. Luminescence tests indicate that 1 has excellent selectivity and sensitivity to detect Fe3+/Fe2+, Cr2O72-, and a series of nitroaromatic explosives. Interestingly, 1 can effectively distinguish CrVI anions (CrO42-/Cr2O72-), which is difficult for most of the reported CPs. Furthermore, in the detection process, 1 can be simply and quickly regenerated and reused at least five times. As far as we know, 1 is the first multifunctional Eu-CP used as a luminescent probe to detect Fe3+/Fe2+, Cr2O72-, and a series of nitroaromatic explosives (NAEs) based on the imidazolium derivative.

The sensitive and selective identification of nitroaromatic explosives and industrially ubiquitous nitrates, which are harmful to the environment, is crucial from the viewpoints of security and environmental remediation. New multifunctional fluorescent porous materials that can sense nitro-explosives and nitrates are under continuous development. To this end, this study synthesizes 3,10,15-/-3,10,16-tribromotrinaphtho[3.

Nitroaromatics, as an important member and source of nitrogen-containing aromatics, is bringing enormous economic benefits in fields of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, functional materials, fertilizers, and explosives. Nonetheless, the notoriously polluting nitration industry, which suffers from excessive discharge of fumes and waste acids, poor functional group tolerance, and tremendous purification difficulty, renders mild, efficient, and environmentally friendly nitration a formidable challenge. Herein, we develop a visible-light-driven biocompatible arene C-H nitration strategy with good efficiency and regioselectivity, marvelous substrate applicability and functional group tolerance, and wide application in scale-up synthesis, total synthesis, and late-stage functionalization.

Article Synopsis
  • Thin films of poly(arylene ethynylene)-conjugated polymers can be created using a specialized method called surface-confined Sonogashira cross-coupling, which offers precise control over their structure and organization.
  • These polymers boast high stability and significant electronic interactions between chains, enhancing their electronic and spectroscopic properties.
  • The resulting fluorescent films are highly sensitive in chemosensing applications, effectively detecting nitroaromatic explosives in water at extremely low concentrations (sub-ppt level) due to improved exciton mobility.

In this work, two novel probes 4a and 4b were synthesized through Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction, whose structures were further confirmed by H NMR, C NMR, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The optical properties of the obtained molecules were investigated accordingly. Owing to different bridging fluorophores, there are certain differences in optical performance and detection ability between the two synthesized compounds.
