A Practical Guide to Grade Adjustment or Curving for Pharmacy and Other Professional Health Programs.

Pharmacy (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Chapman University, Irvine, CA 92618, USA.

The peer-reviewed literature on the adjustment or curving of assessments in health profession programs is almost non-existent. This communication aims to present potential methods of grade adjustment for individual questions or entire assessments. Simulated data for a 25-item assessment were used as an example to analyze the effects of different methods of grade adjustment on students' scores.

Purpose: Biodiesel is a non-toxic, renewable, and environmentally friendly fuel used in compression ignition engines. This work aimed to develop FeO/SiO as a cheap, magnetic, and easy separable catalyst for biodiesel production from waste oil by sono-catalytic transesterification.

Methods: Fe₃O₄-SiO₂ was prepared using a modified Stober method and used as a heterogeneous catalyst in an ultrasound-assisted transesterification reaction to produce biodiesel.

Introduction: The objective of this study is to develop and evaluate an evidence-based, clinically relevant, and user-friendly eLearning resource to facilitate the provision of safe and affirming physical therapy services for individuals with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and other related identities or experiences (LGBTQIA+).

Review Of Literature: When accessing physical therapy, individuals who are LGBTQIA+ can experience assumptions, discrimination, discomfort, and encounter health professionals who lack knowledge about LGBTQIA+ health.

Subjects: Nine consumers and end-users participated in codesign and 20 physical therapists (evaluated the resource).

Group sequential design using restricted mean survival time as the primary endpoint in clinical trials.

Stat Methods Med Res

January 2025

Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health (Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Tropical Disease Research), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

The proportional hazards (PH) assumption is often violated in clinical trials. If the most commonly used Log-rank test is used for trial design in non-proportional hazard (NPH) cases, it will result in power loss or inflation, and the effect measures hazard ratio will become difficult to interpret. To circumvent the issue caused by the NPH for trial design and to make the effect measures easy to interpret and communicate, two simulation-free methods about restricted mean survival time group sequential (GS-RMST) design are introduced in this study: the independent increment GS-RMST (GS-RMSTi) design and the non-independent increment GS-RMST (GS-RMSTn) design.

A simple and integrated fiber-optic real-time qPCR platform for remote and distributed detection of epidemic virus infection.

Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is a well-recognized technique for amplifying and quantifying nuclear acid, and its real-time monitoring capability, ultrahigh sensitivity, and accuracy make it a "golden-standard" tool in both molecular biology research and clinical diagnostics. However, current qPCR tests rely on bulky instrumentation and skilled laboratorians in centralized laboratories, which spatially and temporally separate the sample collection and test, leading to longer sample turnaround times (TATs) and limited working conditions. Herein, we propose an integrated optical fiber real-time polymerase chain reaction (iF-PCR) system that successfully allows convenient sample collection, rapid thermocycling, closed-loop thermal annealing, and real-time fluorescence detection in a tiny capillary reactor.
